An overgrown yard, brush and limbs to clear, and garden beds needing attention brought one July 2026 Google reviewer to Black Belt Landscaping. The customer says Alex responded quickly, visited the property and supplied an estimate promptly; the crew arrived within a week and left the yard looking better. The Holden company says Alex Bickerstaff began mowing neighborhood lawns in 2012, at age 13, as Alex’s Backyard Business, then launched Black Belt Landscaping in spring 2018. It describes residential and commercial landscaping across central Massachusetts, from lawn maintenance and seasonal cleanups to landscape installations and custom water features. Google shows 4.9 stars from 114 ratings, and its BBB page has an A+ grade. Older customers describe both regular maintenance and changes to their yards. In a June 2025 Google review, a customer said Alex’s crew handled mowing, mulching and spring and fall cleanups, with quick responses from the office. A July 2025 reviewer described a weed-filled front-yard area replaced with stone and pavers, with some plants salvaged and moved. A November 2024 customer praised a multi-tiered water fountain along with storm cleanup and new grass planting. In September 2025, another customer described two stumps ground down, cleanup, loam spreading and seeding. Several dated complaints concern getting an estimate or a place on the schedule. An April 2024 Google reviewer said repeated quote requests went unanswered. In May 2024, a customer said an aeration quote exceeded the website’s price, which the company attributed to an outdated website. After accepting the quote, the customer described two rounds of waiting without the promised scheduling contact. An August 2025 reviewer praised the bed and shrub work but said getting onto the schedule took time. A December 2024 reviewer raised more extensive concerns. They described nearly six weeks to obtain a revised quote, then alleged debris left behind, poorly compacted soil, damaged fencing, garden beds installed incorrectly, and stone dust supplied instead of the quoted crushed stone. The customer said the company would not make revisions without additional payment and quoted $2,200 for the crushed-stone work; they said they ultimately removed debris and dug the beds down themselves. An August 2025 customer praised dependable scheduled mowing, trimming and cleanup, but said the service stayed strictly within the agreement and offered no proactive improvements. Other customers described broader help: a June 2024 reviewer said Alex returned after the crew missed a neighboring yard that was meant to be included in a cleanup.
