A 1950s cast-iron tub that has started to chip, a bathroom tiled in 1970s harvest gold, a formica counter nobody wants to spend thousands replacing: those are the jobs Boston Bathtub gets called for. The Avon company refinishes tubs, tile, sinks and countertops instead of ripping them out, and says it sprays its own fast-curing coating, RapidCoat, from Boston out to Worcester, the South Shore and the Cape. Christian Blunt co-founded it and still turns up on jobs himself; by the company's account he has spent six years on refinishing alone. Across 43 reviews since 2023 the same two things repeat: the technician arrived when he said he would, and he walked the homeowner through the process before the sprayer came out. Customers name the person who did the work — Christian, Corey, Geoff, Devin, Liz, Damian — more often than they name the company. A homeowner writing in January 2025 described the technician masking off every surface near the spray and explaining each step when asked. In a March 2024 review, another said the company repaired a tub chip that other outfits had turned down. The work runs wider than tubs. A 2024 reviewer had a harvest-gold tile surround reglazed white; in January 2025 another salvaged an old formica countertop rather than buying a new kitchen; a 2025 customer with a damaged shower stall in a brand-new house said the repair left nothing to see. When something isn't right, the return trip has been quick: a June 2026 customer said one small area didn't match at first and the crew came straight back to redo it. A property manager writing in late 2025 has used them across several buildings. The one complaint on file is about reaching them, not the work: in August 2025 a customer said a request to buy one of the approved bath mats went unanswered, and that the Avon office door was locked when they drove over. Settle purchases and scheduling by phone or email rather than expecting a storefront, and ask when the tub can be used again — a 2023 reviewer said the coating dried the same day, unlike the overnight wait at the refinisher they had used before. If what you have is structurally sound and just looks tired, this is a cheaper call than a tear-out; a 2022 r/boston commenter who reglazed instead of replacing put that job at a couple hundred dollars, though get a quote for your own tub.
