Nineteen Google ratings averaging 4.8, and the name that keeps surfacing in them isn't the company's — it's Lance's. Boston Hill Fence works out of 977 Amesbury Road in Haverhill, and the company describes itself as a custom fence builder for residential and commercial jobs in wood, vinyl, ornamental aluminum, chain link and post-and-rail, working across Massachusetts and New Hampshire. It says it also handles snow management in the off season. What recent customers describe is a job that stays on schedule and stays explained. A homeowner in June 2026 said the crew was on time and in touch from the first quote through the last day of installation. In March 2026, another chose the company on price and flexibility and described the run from demolition to build-out as seamless, with a heads-up on every minor change along the way. A May 2026 customer's account is the most specific of the bunch: the fence was reworked around three dogs and three kids, with concerns and plan changes walked through before the crew committed. The willingness to come back is part of the picture too. In September 2025, a customer wrote that after a miscommunication between the homeowner, their general contractor and Lance produced the wrong fence, the crew tore it down and rebuilt it without argument. The snag is on the front end. In May 2026 a homeowner left a single star and one line, calling the company an unresponsive vendor despite multiple follow-up attempts — the only negative in the last six months, and worth weighing against a review history that otherwise runs positive from 2021 to 2026 across a dozen reviews and three sources. That history is real but not deep, so the 4.8 star average rests on a modest base. Fencing-only contractors are exempt from Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, so there's no state registration to look up here. This is a sensible call for a custom residential fence where the ground isn't simple and the design needs to bend around pets, kids or an existing yard — the reviews that go into detail are all about that kind of fit. Before you commit, pin down how quickly they'll come back to you: get the estimate timeline and a named point of contact in writing up front, and confirm the install window, since the praise and the one complaint both hinge on communication.

Lance and his team were phenomenal to work with. From responding to our initial request for a quote to the final day of installation, they were on time, communicative, professional and delivered thoughtful and quality work. We love the final product and happily recommend them for any job.

I chose Boston Hill Fence for this project due to their competitive pricing, flexibility, and knowledge of the process. It was seamless from the demolition through the build out and communication was great! They kept me updated with any minor changes and were receptive to my requests as well. I couldn’t be happier with the finished result. I would highly recommend them!

Lance and his crew did a great job. They initially put a fence up that was for lack of a better word, miscommunication, between us, the General Contractor, and Lance. No questions asked, Lance and his crew came back, took that fence down, and gave us exactly what we were looking for. Looks great, and we are very happy. Professionalism in its true definition. Thanks Lance and Crew.
