BrickGuard Masonry & Restoration builds new chimneys and steps, and holds a 4.8-star Google average from 50 ratings. Its website says it handles foundation and masonry work in Connecticut and the surrounding areas. One recent customer thought a chimney needed a complete rebuild; that customer said Paul repaired it in places and repointed it for half the price. A recent customer's step got a complete rebuild, and when the work was finished they asked for the driveway to be cleaned, which was done for a low price. A recent customer said the company power washed and resealed their driveway and that it still looked new two months later. A recent customer said the team helped with their foundation and there had not been one drop of water in 11 months. A 2026 customer with a serious leak in the basement said Dennis gave an estimate 1,200 dollars cheaper than the next company. A 2026 customer said a waterproofing job left no more leaks and was done quickly and neatly. A 2026 customer said the job was done way before schedule and that Dennis called back within 5 minutes when he missed a call. A 2025 customer said the company put in new steps, a walkway and a porch. A 1-star customer hired Paul for power washing, paver sanding and sealing of a driveway, patio and walkway in West Haven. That customer said the area was left in a mess, ant hills and weeds appeared between the pavers within 2 weeks, Paul was a no-show for the first scheduled repair, and the second scheduled day came and went with no word; they hired a different masonry crew to redo the work. A recent customer said there was no guarantee and that after paying they could not find anyone. Connecticut lists its home improvement contractor registration, HIC.0704057, as active, held by Brickguard Masonry & Restoration Corp.
Paul, the owner of Brickguard Masonary, is dishonest & unethical. Do not hire him. I post this to save other home owners from being taken advantage of by his practices. Turns out that he has multiple complaints filed to the Better Business Bureau. Yelp also.. He came by to give me a free estimate in West Haven for power washing, paver sanding, & sealing of my driveway, patio & walkway on May 14. His friendliness, my preference for supporting small businesses, & 10 year warranty service convinced me to hire him. We agreed on a price & work was done the next day. A small group of men arrived who didn’t seem to know what they were doing, requiring frequent redirection by Paul who was intermittently present. I honestly did not feel that this was his usual crew but rather a random group of guys he got together. The area was left in a mess. The quality of the work was not impressive. Not surprisingly, within 2 weeks, ant hills started popping up between the pavers followed by weeds growing between the pavers & much of the paver sand has washed away. He was a no show for the first scheduled repair of this bad work. After multiple unanswered text messages & phone calls, I was finally able to reach him & another date in August was scheduled for the warranty work. I posted a review on Yelp & Google to warn others. He immediately called me complaining about it, so I agreed to take them down to give him a chance to resolve the issue. The second scheduled day came & went with no word from him. I’ve hired another masonry crew to redo his work & they were shocked that it was done by a “professional contractor.”. The cost was similar but the experience was night & day. Unless you have money, hours, and precious energy to waste, I’d definitely pass on this one. Shameful.
The experience was terrible! There was no guarantee at all, and after paying the money, I couldn't find anyone.
