Brodeur & Sons is the number South Coast homeowners call when an oil tank runs dry mid-blizzard. In reviews describing this year's storms, drivers are credited with pushing through snow and ice to make same-day deliveries, including for customers who weren't even on the books yet. The Dartmouth-based company says it traces back to 1929 as a coal and ice supplier and today delivers B30 Bioheat fuel and installs and services oil and gas heating systems, heat pumps and central air across Acushnet, Fairhaven, New Bedford, Westport and the rest of the South Coast. The reviews that carry the most weight are the long ones: customers who say they've used Brodeur for a decade or more for both fuel delivery and furnace service, and who describe a company that answers the phone, shows up when it says it will, and explains what it found. In a September 2025 review, a technician named Shane traced a dead heating unit to spider webs blocking the burners and cleaned the whole system for what the customer called a fair price. In a November 2025 review, a furnace failure during a Sunday-night snowstorm brought the service manager, Jeff, out the next morning once the driveway was plowed. And in a December 2025 review, a 270-gallon oil tank leak was diagnosed, the old tank pumped and replaced, and the area cleaned up within 24 hours. Kim, in the office, and technicians Shane and Kyle are named often enough across 2026 reviews to read as the regular crew customers ask for. Two things are worth knowing before calling. The company's Massachusetts HVAC (sheet metal) license shows as expired on the state registry. And its own website calls itself "family-owned since 1929" while its own company history also says it was purchased in spring 2020 by new owners outside the Brodeur family — a June 2026 review from a longtime customer makes the same point, saying the business is no longer family run and describing being cut off after questioning why a $250 preseason maintenance visit missed a broken upstairs unit. For routine oil delivery, furnace and AC service, and winter emergencies, Brodeur has a long, well-documented track record in its South Coast footprint. Given the license question, it's worth asking directly about current licensing before signing on for larger installation work.
