A recent customer who owns a landscape company bought Brown Aggregate's performance soil to plant a lawn at their house and said the soil was full of wood chips. That customer said the company promised a refund that had not yet arrived, and that the grass grew in patches. A 2021 obituary on legacy.com said its subject formed the R. H. Brown Inc. excavating company in Kennebunkport, which it called well known in York County and Southern Maine.

Nice people but dont buy the performance soil. I own a landscape company. Bought some to plant a lawn at my house. They advertise it as being the best of the best. The only thing I found to be premium was the price. The soil was full of wood chips. I told them. They said they would refund me. I spoke with them several times since and im yet to recieve my money back. The lawn came in awful. All the wood chips made the grass grow in patches. In 30 years of being in business ive never had wood chips in any soil that i purchased. As wood chips break down they turn the soil acidic. Bad for grass and plants. I get the privilege of excavating my front lawn ajd doing the project twice.
