In a 2025 review, a customer described hiring Paul and his sons, Eli and Ross, of Burnham Custom Building and Remodeling to raze a roughly 140-year-old barn/garage and raise a new one on almost exactly the same footprint, with a finished, insulated poolhouse, a three-bay garage and a large second floor. The company says it has been family owned and operated since 1987 and takes on custom homes, additions and renovations across Berkshire County, Massachusetts and Southern Vermont. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active on the state registry. A 2026 customer said Paul and his sons essentially rebuilt their house, and singled out the finishing touches, like moldings. A 2026 customer said they went out of their way to make sure new work matched the historical style of the house. A 2025 customer said Burnham first added a detached, oversized two-car garage, then replaced every external window frame with composite materials. That 2025 customer said the crew discovered extensive dry rot under the siding during the window work, which led to replacing a wrap-around deck, and that Burnham oversaw installation of stone stairs with a hand railing at the entrance. A 2025 customer said Burnham did three projects for them: a spare room remodel with custom built shelving and new flooring, then two new construction window replacements, and called the fees very reasonable. A 2025 customer said Burnham built additions including an extra bed, bath and porch and remodeled the kitchen and another bathroom, and that Paul suggested putting a fir ceiling in the kitchen.
These guys do things right. From structural to finish work, they pay attention to the details. They went out of their way to make sure new work matched the historical style of our house.
A knowledgeable, professional team that executed our project in a timely manner with an exemplary finished product.
Paul and his sons did a fantastic job in essentially rebuilding our house. They were meticulous, multi-talented, true craftsmen, and they managed all aspects of the project with great advice along the way. Especially memorable were the finishing touches (like moldings) and suggestions for things that would add to the value of the work and the aesthetics of the finished project. Creative, highly experienced, professional, honest, responsible, straightforward, well-connected with the trades. I would work with them again in a heartbeat.
Problem: raze and then raise our ~140 year old dilapidated barn/garage. Solution: Burnham Custom Builders. Based on word-of-mouth recommendations, their fine reputation, and first-hand knowledge of their previous excellent work, we hired Paul and his sons, Eli and Ross. They were true partners in every phase of the project, working closely with us on both the design and construction of the new building. We relied on them to make useful, practical, and aesthetic suggestions at every step of the process. Our first design meeting to discuss our vision and scope of this project set the collaborative tone. They were open and clear about both budget and timetable. Their craftsmanship, professional knowledge and skills, expertise, and sense of aesthetic design were outstanding. They were open to our evolving thoughts and ideas throughout the project, giving us their valuable honest opinions and suggestions, and making our original vision a reality that has far exceeded our expectations. Our new barn, set on almost exactly the same footprint as the old barn, incorporates a finished, insulated poolhouse/cabana with a mini kitchenette, a countertop made from our repurposed old diving board, and a changing room with swinging saloon doors. We now also have a three bay garage with barn-style doors, beautiful carriage lamps, rustic hardware, and a custom-crafted cupola with barn owl weathervane. In addition, we have a large second floor, with plenty of room for entertaining, a great “rec-room” for the grandkids, and plenty of storage space. The Burnham team was highly professional, meticulous, dedicated, hardworking and highly motivated builders and craftsmen. Their fine workmanship, on both a large and small scale, was superior. They demonstrated an outstanding work ethic, and managed all their subcontractors capably and efficiently. Result: a new custom barn that perfectly compliments the age and heritage of our old farmhouse property. We are excited and very enthusiastic about working with them again on our upcoming major house renovation. We recommend them without hesitation for any building project.
We have used Burnham custom Building and Remodeling for 3 projects. A spare room remodel with custom built shelving and new flooring. Absolutely thrilled with the work done. The next two projects were new construction window replacements. Extremely happy with the quality of the work and their honesty. They show up when they say they will be there, the quality of the work is excellent and the fees are very reasonable. I would use them every time I have a project that needs to be done.
