A town handed this Adams outfit an $8 million building. The Berkshire Eagle reported in December 2021 that Souliere & Zepka Construction's $7.7 million base bid was the low one for the Greylock Glen Outdoor Center at the foot of Mount Greylock, and by late January 2022 the Adams town administrator was signing the paperwork making the firm prime contractor on it. BBB dates the company to 1981 and counts 45 years in business at 5 Spring Street. What is unusual here is who did the praising. In April 2024, iBerkshires quoted the owner's project representative describing the workmanship under Souliere & Zepka and its subcontractors as "exceptional" with great attention to detail, and the Berkshire Eagle carried the same assessment of the visitor's center work. That is a construction professional grading a public job, not a homeowner filling out a star form — and it is the closest thing to a performance review this company has in public. Away from Greylock Glen the work reads as ordinary Berkshire County general contracting. BuildZoom's permit file lists 15 permitted projects and scores the firm 101, which it puts in the top 12% of the 139,240 licensed Massachusetts contractors it tracks. The company's Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active and held in its own name; BuildZoom separately lists an active Massachusetts construction supervisor license. In a 2022 Berkshires business feature, an owner described herself as a woman construction business owner carrying on her family's legacy in the trade. Two things are worth raising on the call. A compliance-record site reports that U.S. Department of Labor records show a formal OSHA inspection of the company that produced one citation — ask about it directly and hear their account. BuildZoom also shows a second home improvement registration, #188047, as inactive and at one point cancelled, alongside the active one. The gap is customers. Neither BBB nor BuildZoom carries a single customer review — no stars, no complaints, nothing in either direction. So the case for hiring them rests on a large public building won on competitive bid and graded well by the people overseeing it, plus a long licensed history and a thick permit file; the case against is that nobody has written down what it is like to have this crew in their own house. For an addition, a commercial job, or a renovation where a general contractor has to run several trades in a small Berkshires town, they are a reasonable call. Ask for two or three recent homeowner references and get the OSHA matter explained before you sign anything.
