C.O. Beck & Sons describes itself as a Maine-based roofing company doing residential and commercial roofing, and its website says it has been in business 106 years. A recent Google customer says the company has now done two roofs for them, the first about ten years ago, and that the work has held up. On the second job, Seth and his crew were pleasant and professional. Near the end of the job, Mitch Beck stopped in and worked on the roof side by side with the crew. In a 2022 review, a customer described a new metal roof on a camp on an island in Belgrade Lakes. That customer said scheduling was slow because a boat had to be found for the estimate and again for the work, but once that was sorted the job was done on time. The same 2022 customer said the company also added or replaced some gutters and installed two solar panels the customer supplied, at the contracted price. A 2024 customer said the company came out for roof maintenance issues, was professional and offered helpful information. In 2022, a customer who asked for a roof estimate wrote that someone stopped by within a week, then the customer waited four weeks before being told the job was not worth the company's time.
Co beck and sons has done two roofs for me. The first was about ten years ago. I did get some slightly cheaper quotes, but went with beck for their reputation. I was not disappointed. The crew was pleasant and professional, and the work has held up beautifully. I feel like the warranty counts for something with these guys, even though I’ve never had a problem. At the time my father went with a cheaper company, he had to chase them to finish the work, and they tried to give him a hand written receipt when they finally finished. Was super glad we went with co beck. More recently, my wife and I purchased our forever home. I didn’t bother to shop because my first experience was so good. Again, I was not disappointed. Seth and his crew were great, again pleasant and professional. I was surprised toward the end of the job, one of the owners Mitch Beck, stopped in personally, and was on the roof in blistering heat working side by side with the crew. These guys do large commercial projects all the time. It meant something to me that he still took the time to look at my house, and I think it says a lot about the culture of the company that he was sweating along with his employees on some of the hottest and most humid days we’ve had this year. I have to believe they respect that he’s not some prima Donna busting their chops from an air conditioned office. If you want to know it’s done and done right, hire co beck. Awesome company.
C.O. Beck did a very good job on our roof. We called them out for maintenance issues, and they were very professional, and offered some helpful information. I would use them again.
They put a new metal roof on our camp on an island in Belgrade Lakes. The process was slow to get scheduled, due to needing to find a boat for the estimate and then one for the work, but once we got that figured out, they did the work on time, and did it extremely well. Steve and his crew did a superb job of making sure everything was built to be leak-free for longer than the rest of my life. The material samples they provided were also very useful for selecting the color. The camp was built in the early 1930s and has some complicated eave-valley interactions that required significant work to install. As an engineer for a well-known space agency, I was impressed with the engineering they did to make it not just watertight but with redundancy. The new flashing on the fieldstone chimneys should eliminate the regular leaks we used to have there, for example. (That work was done by G&L Contracting, to Beck's specifications.) They also added/replaced some gutters, which I haven't seen in person yet but the photos (and the gutter sample I did see) look not only beautiful but sturdy enough to last until the heat death of the universe. Mitch was very responsive and helpful dealing with the issues of working on an island, and everyone on the crew was a joy to have at the camp while they were working. The end result is absolutely gorgeous, and the thought of never having to re-roof again is a huge load off. Steve was meticulous in making sure to keep the worksite clean (no sharp metal shards allowed!) while I was there, so I am confident there will be none when we get back next summer. In addition, they installed two solar panels that I provided. I suspect that was more work than initially planned for, but they did a great job at the contracted price. Overall, I couldn't be happier with the process or the result!
I called for an estimate on a roof, and while they were responsive in stopping by within a week, I waited 4 weeks for a response on the estimate only for them to tell me that it's basically not worth their time, and refused my quote. It would probably be better business to be up front about these things, rather than make false promises for weeks...only to bail out when I inquired. Unprofessional, and won't be using or recommending anyone to use them.
