Cambridge Landscape Company is a Cambridge-based full-service landscaper — maintenance, design/construction, tree care, irrigation, and snow removal — that says it started in 1979 from a single truck and lawnmower and has grown into a Sperber Landscape Companies division after an October 2024 acquisition. It says it serves Cambridge, Somerville, Brookline, Newton, Arlington, Lexington, Belmont, Watertown, Waltham, Wellesley and Winchester. The finished jobs read well: a 2025 review describes a tree cut down, chipped and cleaned up in under 20 minutes at a reasonable price, and a 2022 account describes a tree removal that left no damage to the surrounding plants. But alongside that sits a persistent pattern — six separate 1-star reviews spanning 2021 through 2023 describe reckless or aggressive driving by company trucks encountered on the road: tailgating, brake-checking, and parking on sidewalks and bike lanes. None of those reviewers say they actually hired the crew. Two things worth asking about before booking. A May 2026 review describes a tree-trimming job left unfinished for months, with payment demands still arriving as of that review, and a separate April 2026 review says pricing rose and the small-company feel is gone since the October 2024 sale to Sperber. Older reviews, from 2023 and 2024, also describe trouble getting a callback or a firm schedule confirmed. For a straightforward tree-removal or landscaping job the completed work reads solidly, but get a firm start date and payment terms in writing before signing, and treat the driving complaints as a separate issue from the quality of work performed.
Don't call these people if you actually want work done. I got a quote from them in early October for trimming a tree and removing a bush. They would never tell me when they could schedule the work. I few days before Christmas, I got a text very early in the morning saying the crew would arrive soon and could I tell them what to do. I did not think it should be my responsibility to supervise their crew. They did part of the job and said they couldn't complete the work because it was raining. Now it is May, they have never returned, and they are sending me demands for payment. But the work is still not complete.
Since being acquired by Sperber Landscape Companies in October 2024, Cambridge Landscape Co. has moved away from its roots as a small, locally-owned family business to become a division of a national network with roughly $500 million in revenue. I feel that the price is higher than the local smaler companies.
Wow! Super professional crew - fast and courteous. Such a pleasure to find people who respect their customers these days.
Excellent service from Cambridge Landscaping cutting down a sad tree. Joe came out to check out the project on one day, the guys came to do the work about 4 days later, and they finished the entire project -- from cutting down the tree to chopping it into little wood chips and cleaning up -- in under 20 minutes. Very happy, plus reasonable price.
