Dan Barnicoat's chainsaw got compared to a surgeon's scalpel by a May 2024 customer, who counted 15 trees coming down in half the time expected and no damage to driveways, sheds, light posts or mailboxes. That is the job Cape & Island Tree Service gets called for on Cape Cod: trees that have to come down near things you can't afford to hit. The company works out of Centerville, and its Better Business Bureau profile describes a sole proprietorship Barnicoat started in 2016, graded A+ though not BBB-accredited. Its Google page averages 4.9 stars across 66 ratings. Speed comes up as often as the cutting. A January 2025 customer said the quote request was answered right away, the work was booked three days out, the crew arrived first thing in the morning, and two large trees were down with the whole area cleaned up. A March 2024 reviewer said an hour of their work covered what another company had taken ten hours to do. Someone who called at noon in May 2024 for brush and tree work had them there the same day. There is a more deliberate side too. A July 2025 review described Dan responding with a phone call, coming out to the property in person, and putting the estimate in writing before his team took large limbs off trees across the yard. A July 2026 reviewer called the pricing fair for how hard the crew worked and singled out Dakota, the office manager, as diligent and polite. Customers also describe pruning an apple tree and an overgrown cedar in a November 2023 review, several trees transplanted in June 2024, stump grinding, and a firewood order in February 2023 that arrived the next day, all hardwood. Planting, brush removal and snow removal round out the list on its BBB profile. One August 2023 customer left a single star, saying the job became a bait and switch and that two weeks after raising it, the promised fix had not come. The BBB listing also describes a one-employee operation, while more than a dozen reviewers describe Dan showing up with a crew. For Cape Cod takedowns, limbing over a house or shed, stumps and firewood, this is a small outfit with a long Google history behind it. Get the scope and the price in writing before the saws start, and ask what insurance covers work directly over the house.

Amazing work, you get what you pay for. I felt like the pricing was fair, especially for how hard they worked and with what skill it takes to drop trees like that. Dakota the office manager was very diligent and polite, and Dan is an exceptional man, and even more extremely skilled climbers. He seems to be going through a tough time yet still showed up and got the job done like he said he would. Like I said, you get what you pay for. Cheapest is not always best when it comes to certain things, we all know this. It almost never is and I’m thankful for a job well done! Thanks Dan, we will be using you again in the future. You deserve a vacation! 🏝️

Very professional tree service! Dan responded quickly with a telephone call, personal visit and written estimate. He and his team were prompt and safely removed significant large limbs from existing trees across our property. Upon completion of the work, they thoroughly cleaned the work area and removed all debris. Will definitely use Dan and his team again in the future. Highly recommend!
Late last Saturday afternoon, our family settled inside as brisk winds increasingly gathered strength before suddenly propelling a mature tree directly onto our home with an ear-splitting jolt. We immediately went outside to survey the damage which included several large heavy branches on our roof, having ripped our brand-new gutters from the soffits and the large trunk leaning into our elevated deck, having ripped the railing off and was within inches of our windows. We called Cape & Island Tree Service and Dan promised he would be there within an hour. He and his team arrived on time, quickly assessed the damage, and set immediately to work removing all the branches and trunk from our roof, deck and home. He also assessed the remaining trees which were still swinging in the wind and did everything possible to help us feel safe following such a scary situation and to minimize any further damage to the impacted areas by safely removing any tree debris from our roof, deck and impacted area. We highly recommend Dan and Cape & Island Tree Service to anyone looking for prompt, responsive service, attention to detail, fair pricing and exceptional results. We look forward to working with Cape & Island on our current and future tree needs!
