Cape Codder Home Improvement is a West Yarmouth-based contractor (Houzz also lists a Hyannis address) that homeowners hire mainly for patios, walkways, retaining walls and other hardscape and masonry work, alongside general home-improvement jobs like porch additions, skylight replacements and roof and gutter repairs. The company reports being run by Thiago (some reviewers spell it Tony or Tiago), and Houzz states more than 14 years of experience, though BBB's own 'Business Started 1990' field conflicts with both that figure and BBB's own incorporation date of 2018. The company also lists bathroom and kitchen renovation among the services it offers on its profiles. Reviews from 2019 through late 2024, spread across Google, Angi, HomeAdvisor and BBB, are overwhelmingly positive: homeowners repeatedly praise responsive quoting, on-time crews and clean finish work on projects like a 160-foot stone retaining wall completed in eight days, a circular stone patio with a fire pit, and a driveway-and-walkway job for a repeat customer who also hired them for a back patio and deck. A 2024 review specifically credits the crew with adding roof rafters and finished ceiling work during a skylight replacement and leaving the site spotless. Google shows an aggregate 4.9 stars from 40 ratings; Angi and HomeAdvisor each separately publish 5.0 stars from what is the same 3-review set on both sites. A 2024 Google review is a significant outlier: the reviewer describes being told the job would start in two weeks and take about a week, then chasing the owner for roughly three months through repeated missed start dates, calling the behavior unprofessional and deceitful. Worth confirming directly is the company's Massachusetts Home Improvement Contractor license (HIC #195585), which the state registry verifies as held by this business but currently shows expired. Overall this looks like a hardscape-and-general-remodeling crew with a strong, mostly-recent record for patio, walkway, retaining-wall and repair work, worth a direct conversation about the 2024 delay complaint and current licensing before booking a larger project.
I have worked with Cape Codder Home Improvements on multiple projects over the past 2-3 years including our driveway, back patio and walkway and deck in addition to some smaller work as well. Tiago and team are wonderful to work with. Communication is always great throughout the process and their work is absolutely beautiful and always of the highest quality. I would not use anyone else and would recommend them with the highest confidence.
I don't usually leave reviews, but after giving it some thought, I don't want what happened to me to happen to anyone else. As such, I would not recommend using this company, primarily due to the unprofessional, deceitful, and disrespectful behavior of the owner. I was told the job would be started in two weeks from when I signed the contract and that a team would complete the job in about a week. I signed, paid nearly half the fee, then had to chase after the owner for nearly 3 months to get the job started. He ghosted me on several occasions, told me he'd start about 5 different times, and was rude and dismissive when I expressed my frustration with the delays. I missed hours of work waiting for them, and when they finally did start, he sent one man, with no ladder, for house trim and window work!! That poor man was there for a couple of weeks and long hours doing this job on his own, with occasional help. A major part of the job was a front window replacement. The workers showed up with a smaller set of windows, and said they'd have to build the wall out to install them and I'd lose some light from the window, which was not what was discussed with the owner. He was again rude, extremely disrespectful, bordering on abusive, and outright lied, trying to make it seem like I had it wrong, when the larger window sizes we discussed were part of the original estimate! He wanted another chance, but I told him I was unwilling to have phone conversations, would not meet with him alone, and wanted an updated written contract, which he agreed to, and then I'd decide about continuing to have him complete the project. Again, after several requests, he never produced an updated written estimate. At that point, I decided to cut my losses and move on. His team were hard workers, some parts of the job were done well by them, but some parts were rushed and sloppy. I am a very patient, easy-going person and very much understand things happen, but I have never been treated so poorly by a professional business owner and would never recommend his business to anyone.
I had two Anderson skylights removed. One was replaced with a Velux VSS Solar Skylight, and the second was removed. The removed Skylight required adding roof rafters and interior finished ceiling work. I also chose to re-shingle said roof. Tony suggested options , gave me a timely reasonable bid, answered several questions, completed the work within the contracted time framework and left the inside and outside spotless. I love my new Skylight , and you would never know I had a second skylight removed and replaced with a ceiling! I will definitely hire Tony and his crew when I need new siding! Sandy F
