Missed trash pickups and difficulty getting help are central to the complaints customers describe about Casella Waste Systems. A July 2026 Google reviewer said their trash had been emptied only once in a month and that two weeks of trying to reach someone had involved more than 12 hours on hold. In April 2026, another customer disputed how a payment had been applied, saying it went toward that month's bill rather than an overdue balance; they said their service was paused despite having paid more than $700 over three months. Older accounts describe separate collection problems. In February 2026, a customer said recycling was collected but trash was left behind, and calls from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. did not get the trash removed. A March 2025 reviewer described repeated unsuccessful attempts to have a couch and loveseat collected since the previous November, despite promised pickup windows. They brought the furniture back inside because of snow after one prolonged wait. In January 2022, a customer described weeks without collection and repeated promises of next-day pickup. They said staff were friendly but gave different explanations, including a claim that their road was impassable when they believed it was clear. The customer eventually cancelled and switched companies. Casella's website describes its Holyoke transfer station at 686 Main Street as a drop-off point where materials are collected, consolidated and transported for processing or disposal. The company says it has been in business for 50 years. Google reports a 2.5-star average from 43 ratings.
This place is beyond ridiculous! I have tried to get threw to speak with someone for 2 weeks straight over 12 hours on hold and still nothing they emptied my trash one time in a month !!!!!!! I cant even get a hold of them to come get their barrels... I have definitely changed and will NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE. If I could give negative 10 stars I would
Worst customer service ever! If I could give a -5 star I would hit that. They act like they understand but in reality they are patronizing. It feels like they are "patting you on the head" with words instead of actually fixing the problem. It’s frustrating because The Power Dynamic By saying "I understand," it can feel like they’re talking down to you, especially if the problem is complicated and their apology is overly simplified. The Delay Tactic: Sometimes agents use repeated apologies to "run out the clock" or avoid admitting they don't have the authority or the tools to actually help you. They messed with my bill instead of putting my payment on my pass due bill they put it on the bill for that month. In the last 3 months I have paid over 700 and they call me today saying that I needed to call them for past due balance because they paused my service. I read the review and they are still on here leaving patronizing comments like seriously!
Casella is contracted by the town to collect trash and recycling, and they failed to do their job. Last week they took my recycling and left my trash. I started calling at 8 a.m. and continued until 5 p.m. and despite repeated promises that they were “working on it,” my trash was never picked up. I now have bags of trash sitting around because my barrel was left full. This is completely unacceptable. The last company lost their contract for pulling the same stunt, and I will be contacting and writing to the town to make sure this issue is documented and your contract is not reviewed as well. When you’re paid to do a job do it.
I have been trying to have a couch and loveseat picked up since last November. I was told to place the items out on my garbage pickup date and it would be picked up in the following 1-3 business days. After it sat there for 2 weeks I called again and received the same response. I left if for another 2 weeks and then brought in back in because of the snow. I tried again several weeks ago and this time I was told it would be picked up on my garbage day. After 2 weeks I called again and was told it would be picked up "soon". I'm not sure that they really even offer bulk pickup, but I AM sure that their service is lousy
Trash was never collected for weeks. Called daily to inquiry, each time advised they would be there the next day for pick-up and each day the trash was never collected. Was told a number of different stories from equipment break down issues, staffing issues to icy roadways. To add insult to injury I then received a bill from Casella with a letter advising my fees for trash pick up were increasing. Customer service folks were very friendly. Each time I called I got someone different. After my 10th call they explained that the driver didn't come today and noted the roadway was impassable. Meanwhile the roadway was plowed/clear and passable for all vehicles, including other trash and recycling companies servicing the neighborhood. I was hoping the company would redeem themselves but with my trash overflowing and patience worn thin I finally cancelled my service and went with another more reliable company. It should be noted, that all the neighbors did as well for similar reasons, inconsistent and missed service. I'm speaking for myself, this was my experience. I wouldn't recommend using this company.
