CommTank, Inc. works out of New Salem Street in Wakefield, Massachusetts, and is hired mainly for one thing: getting old heating-oil tanks out of basements and yards and new ones in. The Better Business Bureau lists a wider environmental practice around that core — aboveground and underground storage tanks, temporary tanks, Veeder Root systems, remediation, testing, cleaning, environmental drilling and treatment services — and grades the business A+. The day-to-day work record is strong and unusually specific. There are 116 reviews on file across four sources since 2021, 21 of them in the last six months with one negative, and reviewers name the same people again and again. A July 2026 reviewer described Marcos and a co-worker cutting a hole in the tank, pumping and cleaning it, then halving it and loading it into a box truck in about an hour. A January 2026 reviewer named Jaime and Carlos as prompt and detail-oriented; a December 2025 reviewer said Jaime and Ronald installed a tank on the coldest day of that winter, on time and communicating each change to the plan. Sales rep Jonathan DiDonato (also called JD) recurs across dozens of accounts — an April 2026 reviewer said CommTank was the only one of three companies to do a pre-survey of their basement so there would be no surprise charges, and an April 2026 reviewer said he found a way to fit a tank every other company had refused. Reddit commenters in a 2025 r/massachusetts oil-tank thread said much the same: one reported CommTank replacing an about-to-leak steel 275-gallon tank with a Roth for a little under $4,500, another reported a good job on a 275-gallon Roth, and a third described a great experience with a 2021 Roth replacement. Pricing comes up repeatedly and favourably — reviewers in 2026 and late 2025 describe CommTank as the best of several quotes — and emergency work is a real part of the practice: a December 2025 reviewer called on New Year's Eve for a leak and emergency removal and called the price reasonable for a holiday. There are two things to weigh against that. First, three separate one-star reviewers in a three-month stretch describe installation defects rather than service friction: a February 2026 reviewer said they had fumes leaking from a newly installed tank and that a return visit found an untightened gasket which did not fix it; a January 2026 reviewer said a tank installed in their garage was not what they were promised and that the company was not reliable; and a December 2025 reviewer said outdoor pipes began rusting two months after installation and technicians were sent to paint them. Second, and separately, Massachusetts published a 2021 enforcement settlement in which a Wakefield-based oil-tank installation, maintenance and removal company — named in a trade report as CommTank, Inc. — agreed to pay up to $250,000 and properly close an unpermitted well to resolve alleged hazardous-waste and groundwater-discharge violations at its Wakefield headquarters, along with alleged illegal asbestos handling. That is a matter of public record and belongs in any decision about hiring an environmental contractor. One more thing to confirm: the state registry shows this company's Home Improvement Contractor registration, number 156354 held by COMMTANK, INC., as EXPIRED. Ask about it directly, along with the workmanship warranty and what happens on a callback, and get the tank model and the insurance binder in writing.

“A Wakefield-based oil tank installation, maintenance, and removal company will pay up to $250,000 and will complete proper closure of an unpermitted well to resolve alleged hazardous waste and ground water discharge violations at its Wakefield headquarters and alleged illegal asbestos removal violations at an occupied building in Boston, Attorney General Maura Healey announced today.”

Jonathan DiDonato was the sales rep and the front facing member of CommTank. The sweetest, nicest and oh - most knowledgeable! Decided a specific tank could fit where my own oil company thought it could not. From sales to installation, these folks are solid. Office staff are kind and thoughtful and EVERYONE IS PATIENT. A clean sweep today after installation, I could not be happier. Oh wait. If I won Powerball, I might be a little happier.
Marcos and his co-worker did an excellent job. In about an hour, they cut a hole in tank, sucked out and totally cleaned tank. Then cut the tank in half and put it in their box truck. They showed up on time, very friendly and professional. I'd highly recommend using CommTank!
JD and his team did a great job replacing our oil tank.
