Consumers Fuel Co. is a heating fuel provider in Belfast. A 2025 article on bangordailynews.com described it as family-owned, said it had operated out of the same downtown office building for more than a century, and reported that it had been sold to a much larger private equity-backed company. A 2024 customer wrote that the company had been their family's fuel supplier since 1970, that it always delivered as scheduled, and that its repair men always arrived on time to work on the furnace. A 2023 customer said they had used the company for 10 years and that when their furnace system had problems, it was usually there the same day to fix it. A 2024 customer called the credit application process outdated, but said it took two seconds to fill out in person, that the company comes regularly to top them off, and that setting up autopay took two minutes. A 2023 customer who called to become a new customer and pay by card said they were told a credit application was needed, and that the man who showed up said he could not fill the tank.

Yes, the credit app process is completely outdated and annoying, HOWEVER, I was able to stop in at a moment's notice, they printed it for me, took two seconds to fill out and since then the customer service has been exemplary. Always a person to answer the phone, they come regularly to top us off, it took two minutes for them to set up autopay and we get a discount for paying right away. And the price was better than we were quoted by Downeast, whose customer service is not only terribly lacking, but also incredibly rude.
My wife and I have been using them for 10 years and we joke that they're just as reliable as the sun coming up. When we've had problems with our furnace system they're usually here the same day to fix it. We appreciate them tremendously.
This company is a waste of time. I called this morning to be a new customer. I told them I'd like to pay with my card, I was told you need a credit app. I didn't want a credit account. Then the guy shows up and tells me he can't fill my tank. We do business with two other companies who fill our tank. We were going w consumer bc we ran out of oil and they were delivering in our area today. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY - incompetent is the key word here!!
