Crane Carpentry, run by Wander Oliveira out of Malden, has built its reputation mostly on lead deleading and remediation work, with window installation, general carpentry, and painting rounding out the jobs reviewers describe. The deleading reviews are specific and repeat a pattern: Wander pulling permits, in one case getting a historical commission's sign-off to replace windows on a protected property, and handling multi-unit and whole-house projects — including, in a 2022 review, a 100-year-old home's exterior lead abatement the reviewer said preserved the architectural detail. Reviewers across 2021 to 2026 consistently describe him as responsive, on schedule, and thorough enough to pass inspection on the first try. Separately, a Thumbtack review praised storm windows that fit better than the ones they replaced. Two things are worth knowing. Massachusetts currently lists Crane Carpentry's home improvement contractor registration as expired, according to state registry records. And in a 2022 review, someone who had sent a requested lead inspection report to get a quote said they never heard back after that. For lead deleading, window replacement, or general carpentry work around Malden and the Boston area, this is a business with a deep, largely positive history — worth confirming the state of their registration and getting a firm response before committing.
We had a great experience working with Wander and his team on our home deleading project. Wander was quick to provide a quote, proactive and professional in all communication about the project, and made sure that the job was done efficiently and well. We highly recommend Crane Carpentry and would gladly hire them for future work.
Working with Wander at Crane Carpentry, Inc. was a fantastic experience from start to finish. He recently completed several significant projects for us, including full lead remediation and replacing all of our windows. The quality of his craftsmanship is exceptional; the new windows look seamless, and it is a huge relief to know the remediation was handled with such care and professionalism. Beyond the major projects, Wander also helped us with various odd jobs around the house, including the removal of a built-in desk. Throughout the entire process, his communication was clear and consistent, which made the logistics of the home improvements stress-free. It’s rare to find someone who balances high-quality technical work with such great professional reliability, and we couldn’t be happier with the results.
We had Wander and his team do a large lead remediation job in a historic house. This involved window replacement, door installation, and encapsulation. We were very happy with the results. One time when Wander came by to update an estimate (at our request) before renovation began, we discovered our basement furnace went out. Wander hung around and helped us troubleshoot it and left only when it was running again. Good guy, good team.
The attention to detail, service quality, and timeliness exhibited by the team were exceptional. I wholeheartedly recommend Crane Carpentry to anyone seeking reliable service, as they demonstrate a commitment to getting the job done right. Despite some challenges with payments and winter weather conditions, the work was completed on schedule and at an affordable price. The experience was outstanding, marked by professionalism and honesty that made me feel valued as a customer. I would highly recommend them without hesitation. I had Wander and his team finished a de-leading job in a four bedroom apartment that I recently purchased. I first sent over the inspection report and he reached out immediately in email the next morning and asked to check on the property in person before giving me the quote. He was the only one who did that estimate by showing up and his quote is the best among 5+ companies I reached out from the inspection report. He finished everything in 2 days over the weekend and immediately scheduled a re-inspection on Monday. This quick turnaround really saved me and my potential tenants a lot of headaches. He was very aware of each step and got a great reputation with the inspection company. I'm super happy with the work. He has no drama and was very honest to give the estimate. I'm very impressed and I would like to work with him in the future. He really stands out with the responsiveness and quick turnaround. I'm really happy with his work.
