When Somerville's code enforcement unit went out after unshoveled sidewalks in February 2015, a neighborhood blog named Crowley's Concepts among the contractors following behind with bobcats and plow trucks. That is the range of this Medford outfit: landscape design and development that scales up to municipal work as readily as a back yard. The company says it has been at it since 1994 — 32 years — across Massachusetts, from the Boston area out to Cape Cod and the Islands, pairing landscape design and installation with masonry and hardscaping, artificial turf and commercial snow removal. It lists itself as an EPA Greenscapes Partner. The Better Business Bureau gives it an A+, which is an accreditation grade rather than a customer rating. Its groundwork has turned up in the local press: a 2010 Wicked Local report credited Joe Crowley of Crowley Concepts with the improvements at Santoro Field, where a new warning track and resodded grass made the field look its best in years, league officials said. On Google the company sits at 4.5 stars across 8 ratings. In a 2022 review, a customer described a job that ran straight through from the salesman to the installation, with the crew polite and the site cleaned up at the end, and said the house looked "100% better". In a 2023 r/somerville thread, a homeowner said the company did very nice, high-end stone work for them and that they really liked working with it, if it is in your budget. A fit for someone who wants the design and the build handled by one contractor — planting, stonework and turf on a single contract — or for a property that also needs a winter snow arrangement. Before signing, ask to walk a couple of recent residential installs nearby, and have the contract spell out the plant and material specification.
