Cracked, worn driveways are the work here: crack filling, sealcoating and patching. Crown Asphalt describes itself on its website as providing seal coating, asphalt repair, crack filling and line striping for residential driveways and commercial parking lots, and it names Waterbury as its service area. A recent Google customer praised the repair of the major cracks and the sealcoat, and called the turnaround quick. A recent customer said they made the long trip back just to touch up a minor issue. A 2023 customer said Vinny caught that one of the major cracks couldn't be repaired with just hot rubber, and honored his original quote though it was more work for him. A 2024 customer said Vinny fixed a pothole in the driveway with a pothole patch and sealed the cracks with hot fill. A 2023 customer said the sealcoating was done in Bethany, CT, and that Vinny put down a thick layer of sealcoat. In a 2023 review, a customer said rain washed away the last 20% of a crack fill and coat job, and that they came back a few days later and redid the affected areas. A recent customer who paid for a new driveway said no written contract was provided, and that a poorly blended seam began showing loose aggregate and an area where water collects. That customer said a return visit added cold asphalt to the seam, which still looks and feels like a patch. A 2025 customer said a second repair for the same job came with no warranty, and that they arrived with no materials to finish the job. A 2021 customer said sealer was splattered on the vinyl siding of a shed and on white garage doors.
They did a great job and even made the long trip back just to touch up a minor issue. I would recommend crown all day long.
I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel it’s important to share my experience so other homeowners can make an informed decision. I chose this company because they had excellent Google reviews, and I believed they would provide quality workmanship and professional service. Unfortunately, my experience was the opposite. From the beginning, I was never provided with a written contract outlining the scope of work for a new driveway, outlined expectations, or warranty. Looking back, that was a mistake I should not have accepted. After the driveway was completed, I discovered a poorly blended seam that began showing signs of deterioration, including loose aggregate and an area where water collects. When I contacted the company, I experienced repeated delays, and most communication took place over phone calls instead text or email, leaving little written documentation. I repeatedly requested updates and clear timelines. While the company attributed the delays to weather, there were periods of suitable weather when no work was performed. As a customer, it was frustrating to receive changing timelines without consistent follow-up. This entire experience has been incredibly stressful and disappointing. When you invest thousands of dollars in a new driveway, you expect quality workmanship and prompt resolution of any legitimate concerns. There are a few lessons I learned that I hope will help others: • Never hire the first contractor you speak with. Obtain multiple estimates and compare them carefully. • Insist on a detailed written contract before any work begins. • Keep as much communication as possible in writing. • Don’t rely solely on online reviews when making your decision. • Never pay in cash. Fortunately, I paid by another method, which created a record of the transaction. I’m sharing my experience based solely on what I encountered. I hope the company resolves my concerns, but until then, I cannot recommend them based on my experience. ********************************************* UPDATE: Unfortunately, I am updating my review because the issue with my new asphalt was not properly resolved today. The company returned today to address the seam that was not properly blended during the original paving. The repair consisted of adding asphalt to the seam, but the asphalt being applied was cold. It was not reheated or properly integrated with the existing asphalt. It was then patted down and a sealant was applied. Unfortunately, the seam still looks and feels like a patch rather than a properly completed repair, and the original issue has not been resolved to my satisfaction. I have given this company multiple opportunities to correct the problem and have been patient throughout the process. At this point, I am done trying to have this company correct the work. I paid in full for a properly paved driveway, and I do not believe I received the quality of workmanship I paid for. I have kept my reviews factual because I believe customers deserve to know about my actual experience. Based on the original paving, the workmanship on the seam, and the attempted repair today, I would not recommend this company and I will not use them again.
