D&D Mulch and Landscape is a Hudson-based materials and landscaping outfit that people call as much for a truckload of bark mulch or screened loam dropped in the driveway as for planting and yard work — its Better Business Bureau profile lists 35 years in business, and its written record runs back to 2015 across seven sources. Two very different stories run through that record. On the delivery side, reviews keep repeating the same pattern: order online, get a call for payment, and a driver who shows up on time and places the material exactly where it's needed — one longtime customer's 2024 review called a same-day 7-yard mulch delivery "making this easy." A 2018 review from a repeat landscaping client described the owner personally specing out the job and a crew that was attentive to detail and polite throughout. Screened loam is the recurring sore spot. A 2026 review says lab testing found little of the compost the company advertises in its loam, a 2025 review reported rocks, seashells and glass mixed into a load that kept grass from growing, and a 2022 review made the same complaint about 20 cubic yards. A 2017 review described a much larger landscaping project that ran over budget with crews disappearing and an eventual dispute over final payment, and another from the same year said newly planted pine trees died after no watering guidance was given and a warranty claim was refused. Before booking, it's worth asking exactly what's in a load of loam and getting a larger project's schedule and change-order terms in writing — the smaller delivery jobs draw far steadier praise than the bigger landscaping builds. The Massachusetts Attorney General also cited the company and its president in 2015 for wage-and-hour violations, including unpaid overtime and misclassifying workers as independent contractors. Google's own ratings for the business are split across several listings, from 3.4 to 4.5 stars, so it's worth checking more than one before deciding. For a straightforward mulch or loam order, the record holds up well; for a full landscape build, ask more questions first.
