D&R Construction Company

D&R Construction is a Cambridge general contractor whose pitch is that the boss is on the job. The company says it was founded in 2011 by a Wentworth Institute of Technology construction-management student who worked his way up through another firm first, and it is still run by that owner, Eric Dutra, as president and CEO — someone the company says has been both tradesman and project manager on site. The work it describes runs from gut rehabs — stripping a house to the bones and rebuilding it — through custom kitchens and bathrooms, carpentry, additions, decks and finish work, plus commercial fit-outs. The company also says it has worked extensively inside a Boston medical centre, which is a different discipline from home remodeling: dust control, scheduling around occupied space, and coordination with other trades. Almost all of that is the company's own account of itself. The one outside voice is a short, positive note on Nextdoor about the crew being tidy workers. So treat this as a company worth a conversation rather than one you can check up on from your armchair. If you are weighing them for a whole-house renovation, ask for the addresses of two or three finished projects, the certificate of insurance for your job, and — since the company advertises itself as fully licensed — the licence card to go with it.
