The contractor we engaged in building our new home utilized Burl Land Clearing LLC to selectively remove trees from our densely wooded 4.1-acre property in Bow, earmarked for constructing our new residence. The acquisition of this lot was motivated by its secluded nature and the abundant tree coverage it offered. I explicitly communicated to the contractor that only trees essential for house construction, along with a selection of some dead or pine trees near the designated building site, were to be removed. Our objective was to retain as much of the natural landscape as possible, minimizing any lawn and leveraging existing trees to shield the property from the road while providing ample shade. Upon inspection of the work progress on the following day, I was dismayed to discover a significant portion of the tree cover had been cleared (including hardwoods that were not to be touched), leaving behind a sizeable open expanse where the house is to be situated, bereft of the desired shade and natural aesthetics. This deviation from the agreed-upon plan was shocking and has resulted in the alteration of the lot's character. The scale of this tree removal cannot be adequately compensated for by replanting efforts, as the decades of growth and ground cover that once adorned the property are irretrievable. The associated costs of reintroducing a comparable volume of mature trees will undoubtedly be substantial, further complicating the situation.
