Dale & Son Hardwood Floors is a two-person hardwood flooring outfit working out of 322 Forest St in Methuen. The Better Business Bureau puts its start date at 1 January 2003, which makes it one of the longer-running flooring names in the Merrimack Valley. Beyond that, the public trail is nearly bare. The BBB opened a file on the company in December 2017 but has never issued it a letter grade, saying it does not hold enough information to rate the business, and the company has not sought BBB accreditation — which, as the bureau itself notes, plenty of working contractors never do. No complaints and no regulatory actions appear against it. Worth knowing on the licensing question: Massachusetts exempts floor-covering-only contractors from Home Improvement Contractor registration under MGL c.142A §14, so a flooring specialist operating without an HIC number is doing nothing irregular. There is simply not enough here to judge the work either way. If you are considering them, that is the ordinary homework rather than a warning: ask for three or four Methuen-area addresses they have finished in the past year and go look at a floor, ask whether they sand and finish on site or install prefinished, and get the square-foot price and the finish schedule in writing before anything starts.
