Deconstruction Works takes buildings apart by hand so their materials can be reused, a practice it calls green demolition, and it says it works on houses, outbuildings and commercial interiors in Vermont, New Hampshire and Western Massachusetts. The company says it has been in business 30 years, is insured and offers free estimates. A local news outlet describes it as a Vermont company whose shop sells the doors, windows, lumber and other components it recovers. On Google it holds 4.8 stars from 46 ratings. A customer this September said the team was on time, respectful of the worksite, clean and fast. A contractor this May said working with Erich keeps reusable items out of the landfill. A customer this August described a mix-up over salvaged items held for pickup at the shop, then added an update after speaking with Erik calling it a good company. A 2025 customer said Erich took apart a barn and former camp building close to their house, and that the materials went to reuse with a tax deduction. A 2025 general contractor said Erich's crew took apart most of a house piece by piece, kept two wings intact, and salvaged nearly everything except a dumpster of drywall. A 2025 customer renovating a home in Westminster West said the team started demolition promptly and found new homes for light fixtures, vanities, tile and cabinets. A 2025 customer said Erich sent photos of their floors reinstalled less than a week after they were removed. A 2024 customer said the company deconstructed their Vermont house for a contracted fee and donated the materials in their name, and that the deduction was substantive. A 2023 customer said Erich took down two chimneys ahead of schedule and under budget. A 2023 customer said the company removed a shed and cleaned up all the debris. A 2022 general contractor said the crew salvaged cabinets and countertops intact and demolished a large area of floor tile during a kitchen remodel. A 2022 customer said the company partially dismantled a warehouse building and finished ahead of schedule and on budget. A 2025 customer gave one star and said the company never returned two calls or their contact form about taking down a barn.
“The shop serves as the retail face of Deconstruction Works, a Vermont company that takes apart buildings carefully so doors, windows, lumber and other components can be recovered for future use.”
Perfect experience, Did exactly what was discussed. Very clean and organized.
Whole team is great. On time. Respectful of the worksite. Clean and fast. Also better to use them and prevent more items that still have life from going in a dumpster. Would use again. Thanks Erich!
I have purchased a quite a few items from them and was very happy with them but my wife went in and bought a few items on a Friday and tried to write them a check and was told don’t and just pay when she picked them up. They weren’t available to pick them up that weekend so on Monday she got a text saying that the main item was now sold to someone else but she could have the rest of the items .to say the least we didn’t get them and will not be doing business with them again. Thanks for nothing Luna Don’t trust her deal with Eric only Update I have reflected on my experience and I have to say that things do happen, I have spoken with Erik and I really can’t stay mad at them. They have been good with everything else and sometimes communication will breakdown. I have been in retail so I know how it goes. They are a good company and I am sorry we had an issue
Working with Erich from Deconstruction Works is a pleasure. As a contractor, I see a lot of things end up in the landfill that could be repurposed and reused. Working with Erich keeps these items out of the trash stream and gives our customers peace of mind.
We were really excited to find this company. We called twice as we were making an offer on a dream house with a dilapidated barn. Deconstruction Works did not return our calls or respond to the contact form. Their phone stated, "if you don't hear from us, call us again." Thoroughly unhelpful and unprofessional. You need to return calls even if you can't do the work. Also, another reviewer below gave you low ratings because you didn't call back. Instead of apologizing you called the reviewer out and told him to write you offline in an email. Your email is not on your website as you prefer to use a contact form. I have sent you an email as well. The professional response to me and the other reviewer is full stop apology. Second, change your voice-mail. Respond to all calls same day. Your brand is everything you do even for non clients. Vermont has a statewide problem with thousands of dilapidated barns that need to be taken down. Everything you do can lead such an effort beyond your client base and capacity. We lost out on a great house because we had no response from you to take down the barn. We hoped you would have helped us to develop a plan but now five days after our first contact and two other attempts we still have not heard from you. You have lots of room for improvement. You could benefit from an executive coach. Feel free to contact me. Every one who is in contact with your business, regardless if they are a client should experience the excellence of your most satisfied client.
