A Desco customer writing in June 2026 reported paying more than $4,700 to repair two residential garage doors, then getting no response for more than a week after requesting pricing clarification and warranty information. They said the charges were four to ten times the prices they later found on the company’s website. The customer described feeling pressured to decide during the visit, a technician requesting a tip after presenting the bill, and old parts and debris left in the garage. Desco describes itself as a Stoughton garage door repair company serving Massachusetts. Its stated service area includes Boston, Cambridge, Quincy, Brockton, Plymouth, Hingham and other communities. The company advertises same-day repairs, 24/7 emergency service and free estimates, and says it is insured and has been in business for 16 years. Customers writing in October 2025 described different experiences. One called about a broken spring and said a technician arrived within an hour, explained the work and finished quickly. That customer called the price reasonable, reported no surprises and said the door worked better afterward. Another said the company came out the same day when their door would not open; the technician identified the problem and had it working smoothly within an hour. That customer also described the price as fair. A May 2024 customer praised a quick, inexpensive garage door repair before rain arrived. Google showed a 4.7-star average from 33 ratings in September 2026; BBB gave the company an A- grade. The June 2026 customer said they initially called about one door’s broken spring, then chose a middle-tier spring package and upgraded rollers after the technician presented packages for both doors. They reported $2,550 for springs, $1,500 for rollers, $475 for labor and additional service fees. Their review said they would seek a BBB complaint if their requests continued to go unanswered, and would update the review if Desco provided a satisfactory resolution.
I don’t review many companies, but I believe it’s important to be honest about both good and bad experiences. I’m writing this review because our experience with Desco was completely different from what we expected based on the reviews we read beforehand. We called Desco because one of our garage doors had a broken spring and we needed the repair completed quickly. The technician was thorough in explaining what was broken and presented multiple repair packages for both doors. Based on his recommendation, we selected the middle-tier spring package and upgraded rollers. While the pricing seemed really high, we trusted his professional recommendation and felt significant pressure to make a decision on the spot because our garage doors needed to be repaired. The final bill for repairing two residential garage doors came out to more than $4,700, including: • $1,275 for each pair of “light duty” springs ($2,550 total) • $750 in rollers per door ($1,500 total) • $475 labor • Additional service fees After the repair was done, I reviewed the pricing information published on the company’s website and was utterly shocked by how different the pricing appeared from the options presented during our service visit. I am attaching a table summarizing what their website listed, compared to what we paid. We paid 4-10x more than what was listed on their website! Many of the online reviews described Desco Garage as “honest,” “affordable,” and “reasonably priced.” That was the complete opposite of our experience. After receiving the invoice, I contacted the company multiple times requesting: • clarification regarding the pricing, • warranty information, • an explanation of how the service packages we were quoted relate to the pricing published on their website. It has now been more than a week, and there has been no response. To add how absurd this situation was, the technician even asked for a tip after presenting a >$4,700 bill. When he left, the old parts and debris were left in our garage for us to clean up ourselves. I have never experienced such unprofessionalism from a service company. Looking back, I feel foolish for trusting that the pricing presented to us was reasonable without first taking the time to compare it with the company’s published pricing. That’s on me, and it’s an expensive lesson I won’t make again. At this point, the only way this company can begin to restore my confidence is by addressing my concerns in good faith and offering a reasonable resolution that reflects the significant discrepancy I observed between the pricing presented during the service visit and the pricing advertised on their website. If they continue to ignore my requests, I intend to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau so that my experience is formally documented. Regardless, I will never use this company again, and I cannot recommend them. I will also share this experience with my friends, family, neighbors, and anyone considering using this company. My advice is simple… obtain a detailed written estimate, compare it carefully with the company’s published pricing AND with other companies, and don’t feel pressured to make an immediate decision simply because your garage door needs to be repaired. If Desco provides a satisfactory resolution, I will gladly update this review.
