Double Painting & Carpentry Inc works out of Lexington, and despite the name order, painting is the main draw — exterior repaints, interior refreshes, and cabinet painting, with carpentry folded in as trim, molding, and repair work alongside it. A pair of Massachusetts painter directories describe the company serving the Waltham and Newton area since 2003, run by an owner named John. The volume behind it is real: Google shows a 5-star average across 138 ratings, and the 54 reviews pulled together from four separate sources hold that line almost without exception, with several independent Massachusetts painter listings all converging on the same address and a 5.0 rating. What recurs across the years is John himself — reviewers describe him as responsive and easy to reach, patient through mid-project changes, and personally checking in on the crew. A June 2026 review sums up the pattern: the team handled sanding, stripping, painting, and carpentry together, leaving the house looking 'brand new.' Carpentry, the trade this profile is filed under, shows up less as its own line of business than as something bundled into painting jobs — trim, molding, framing, and basic repair work rather than standalone framing or built-in projects. The company's own site lists carpentry and cabinet painting alongside its two painting categories, so it's worth asking directly how much carpentry scope they'll actually take on versus paint around. Its Massachusetts Home Improvement Contractor license, number 217163, is active with the state registry — a clean status worth reconfirming close to booking. This is a strong call for a painting job that might also need some trim or repair work folded in. For carpentry as the main event, ask up front how much of that work they do themselves, and confirm the license is still current when you're ready to hire.

The team did a great job, sanding, stripping, painting, carpentry. They fixed so much that my house looks brand new. The team was hard working and thorough. A pleasure to work with.

We recently had our exterior painted by Double Painting, and we are very happy with the results. John (the owner) was easy to communicate with and always available to answer questions or address concerns. In addition, their pricing was very competitive. Edwin was our lead crew member, and he worked hard, along with other supporting painters, over several weeks to ensure the house turned out great. We'll definitely be hiring them again for future painting projects!

This is the second time that I have had Double painting complete a house project for me. The first time was to repaint my kitchen cabinets which looked and continue to look fabulous. This time it was more of an extensive project, with new flooring, hanging some barn doors, and painting the whole of the inside of my house, including the trim, the ceilings, the heating baseboards, door frames, doors, and closet doors, along with a number of other small things that needed fixing, repairing, or touching up. Everyone who works for this organization is a joy to have in my home, the work is meticulous, engaging with them is easy, and at the end of every day they clean up thoroughly. As a result, there was limited disruption to what was a pretty significant interior refinish. I cannot recommend them highly enough in terms of the logistics, the day-to-day work, and the outcome of the project. In addition, their pricing was excellent, and John the owner of the organization is extremely easy to work with.

John and his team did an awesome job painting our house. They are professional, detail oriented, hard working and great listeners. We went thru so many changes and John was very patient in explaining the pros and cons of each change. Everyone on the team is super friendly and respectful. We are satisfied with both the final product and service. I highly recommend Double Painting and Carpentry
