Dream Barns

Dream Barns is a small custom-building contractor on Walker Brook Rd in Mason NH, run by owner Shawn Pieterse. It builds barns, garages with living space above, workshops, riding arenas and industrial buildings in three framing styles - post and beam, pole-style and conventional - and does its own site work, so excavation, foundations, concrete floors and utility trenching are scheduled on the job's timeline rather than a subcontractor's. How long it has been at it depends on which source you read. The company's own site says it has been making dreams a reality from southern New Hampshire to northern Massachusetts since 1998, and reports 28 years in business; the Better Business Bureau records the business as started on 5 November 2002 and incorporated as an LLC in 2015, giving 23 years. The BBB grades it A+ and lists it as not accredited. The customer record is very small - four reviews across four sources, on which Google publishes a 4.2-star average from 5 ratings. The most concrete evidence of the work is a 2022 comment in r/newhampshire from someone who bought a property Dream Barns had built on: the company had put up a two-storey 24 by 36 foot barn, and the commenter named them first when another resident asked for reputable barn builders. A 2023 customer thanked them for a custom-built garage and called the team's expertise and professionalism outstanding, and a March 2026 reviewer said Shawn builds the most beautiful buildings. Two things about the review set are worth knowing before you weigh it. The five-star review from April 2026 is written by a neighbour who says plainly that they have never hired the company or had a barn built - it praises the crew's care driving past children and not leaving nails behind, which is a real observation but not a customer's account of a job. And the one-star review, from July 2026, is not obviously a customer either: it describes being called to do a job and cancelled on 27 minutes before the start time, and alleges the five-star reviews come from bots. So what you can actually verify is a barn and a garage built and well regarded, on a file too thin to generalise from. New Hampshire does not register general contractors or barn builders, so there is no state licence to check. Ask to see two or three finished buildings of the type you want and speak to those owners, get the site-work scope written into the contract alongside the building itself, and confirm the start date in writing.
