The first thing a homeowner should know about E.F. Corcoran is that the company says it doesn't do residential work. Its own site puts it plainly: plumbing and HVAC for commercial, industrial, institutional and medical properties, across Massachusetts and into northern Connecticut, run out of 5 Rose Place in Springfield. That focus shapes everything else. This is a mechanical contractor rather than a call-a-plumber shop — 24-hour service, gas piping, boilers and heat recovery, the mix a BusinessWest piece described in October 2025 alongside work for hospitals, colleges and a supermarket chain. WWLP reported the company among the 2025 Springfield Super 60 revenue-category winners. The company traces itself to 1963 and Edward (Ted) Corcoran, says his son Jack succeeded him, and that Susan and Alyssa Toomey own and operate it now — the second family to run it. It calls itself family-owned and a union shop affiliated with Local 104 Plumbers and Pipefitters. Its BBB page, which is not accredited, carries an A+ and lists the same July 1963 start date. There isn't much written about them for a firm that old: three Google reviews since September 2025, and a 4.7 average across six ratings. The most telling one isn't from a homeowner at all. In September 2025 a facilities-contracting firm wrote that Corcoran sits at the top of its list — efficient, competent, cost-effective on the solutions it brings. A July 2026 review describes a sink repair done on time, with the plumber and the office staff keeping the customer in the loop from booking through completion. The counterweight is specific and worth reading. In December 2025 a vocational shop teacher described a contracted salon shampoo-bowl installation for a classroom that ran well past a month unfinished, with the parts not ordered ahead and a first visit that couldn't be completed for want of them. One thing to pin down before signing anything: the company publishes "Corporate License # 3302" on its own site, and the Massachusetts plumbing registry record for that number comes back expired — and listed to Thomas J Twiggs rather than to the company. Ask which current licence covers your job and who holds it. If you run a building — a school, a clinic, a plant — this is the kind of shop that picks up at 2 a.m. and knows its way around a boiler room. If you need something fixed at your house, they say up front to call someone else.

Edward F. Corcoran Plumbing & Heating Co., Inc. did a great job regarding a sink repair and the communication was stellar! Brandon Darrow, the plumber, arrived on site on time and showed excellent communication throughout the process. Tracy and Cybil also made the booking process easy!
If I could give zero stars I would!! This company was contracted months ago to install salon shampoo bowls in my vocational shop classroom. They were given all the details of the job before it began and had someone from the company come in to determine what was needed. It has been well over a month of us waiting and the job has not been completed. First, the parts needed to compete the job were not ordered in advance so we had to wait a few more weeks for those to come in. The first person came in and wasn’t able to complete the job as he was missing other parts they were told they would need to install the sinks before the began the job. We had to wait several more weeks for someone to return with the parts they needed. Another person came in to continue the job and left 2 shampoo bowls not installed, mind you there are only 10 sinks we need installed. I reached out to them early this week to get a date and time they would be coming in to complete the job and explaining why we needed them done asap and my email gets ignored. A male coworker also emails them and he gets a response saying they would get to us by the end of the week, which is what we were told last week. This is the end of the second week of us asking when our job will be completed as it is affecting my students lessons but it’s not a priority for them to complete a city contract. I would never recommend this company to anyone. Update: after this review was done the sinks were finished up swiftly. I was not contacted ant anll about it and my coworker was asked if I could remove this review.
We depend on contractors to assist our firm with facilities management. The team at Corcoran is at the top of our list. They are efficient and highly skilled in providing us with competent and cost effective solutions. Tom, Natalie and the entire team are appreciated by us. We highly recommend them .
