Sixty-five Google ratings, and every one of them is five stars. Waterworks Mechanical Inc. runs plumbing and heating calls around Medford and the northern Boston suburbs — water heaters, boilers, drain lines, gas fitting — from a shop BBB lists at 20 Sycamore Ave in Medford under owner Peter McIlroy. The company's own current site tells a slightly different story, describing itself as Winchester-based and saying it's been at this for over 20 years, with more than 30 years of combined experience on staff. This year's reviews keep landing on the same idea: fast. In mid-May, one customer had a water leak diagnosed on the spot the moment Peter arrived. A few weeks earlier, another had a water heater that was flooding the house replaced with a new hybrid unit, and said they'd be recommending the company to neighbors in Winchester. In January, a customer described him as prompt and consistently professional, and said he left the property spotless afterward. None of that is a fluke — 57 reviews have piled up since 2024 across five different sites, and not a single one is negative, including the three posted in the last six months. Two things are worth squaring away before booking. The company's current website says it's based in Winchester, but its BBB filing and registered address put it in Medford — worth asking which location is actually sending the crew. There's also a mismatch on paper: an older Waterworks Mechanical listing cites license #32053JP, while the state registry verifies a different, active plumbing license — 9629541-PL-M — for this business. Ask which number is current before signing anything. For a leak, a dead water heater, or a boiler that needs a real diagnosis rather than a guess, two years of five-star reviews back that up. Nail down the address and license number on the call, and the rest of the history speaks for itself.

Waterworks was very responsive and arrived at our home in less than 90 minutes from our initial contact. The professional that arrived was Peter. He was expert and very thorough and in addition he was very amiable. Of course, Peter fixed our problem. I would contact Waterworks for any of our plumbing/ heating needs in the future. I will add that our need occurred on the day before New Year’s Eve so during a holiday period and they were still very responsive.

We had a great experience with regards to replacing a leaking kitchen faucet. Peter was very prompt to respond, knowledgeable, kind and very careful to leave our space neat and clean upon completing the work. We'd warmly recommend his services.
