I originally used Estes because they were the propane company the previous owner of our house had been using, and I figured I’d stick with them. Unfortunately, after a few minor communication issues, I started thinking about changing providers. The final straw was when Estes chose to politicize the business by promoting a particular political candidate. That was my cue to take my business elsewhere. Unfortunately, even leaving Estes didn’t end the frustration. I called to ask about the money I was owed and was curtly told that my refund check would arrive within 30 business days. I live close enough to their office that I could walk there, but I was told the check had to be mailed. Thirty business days came and went. Then more. And more. Nearly three months later, after I called again, I finally received the refund that was owed to me. I understand that businesses get busy, but good customer service really shouldn’t be this difficult. Between the communication issues, the decision to bring politics into the business, and the excessive delay in returning money that belonged to me, my experience with Estes was thoroughly disappointing. Needless to say, I won’t be going back. There are plenty of propane companies that apparently understand that treating customers well is part of the job.
