Excellence Masonry and Contracting

Excellence did a great job on my patio and 3-season room in Middlebury. Their thoughtful planning and structured process made us feel much more confident than we ever have during a renovation. We also got the feeling from everybody from Excellence that our family and our home mattered on a moral level to them, not just as another job to get done or customer to keep happy. Highly recommend!

I waited for the dust to settle before writing this. I believe everyone deserves a fair assessment, and repairing a paver patio around a pool seemed fairly straightforward; it was not. I got 3 estimates and chose Excellence based upon the statements of expertise they professed and midway price point. I had to put 1/3 down before they would put me on schedule which took weeks. They promised a team was coming, only Jake and Angiel showed up so what was supposed to be a day of demolishing turned into a week. The scope of the job was clearly outlined and in writing, and although I expressed concern about the progression of the project, Jake said it was all OK. My concerns turned out to be valid. Bluestone slabs were cut and installed without consultation necessitating ripping them out and replacing with single piece slabs for the steps; communication was spotty and not initiated by Jake unless I was in transit which led to a few re-works; I had to purchase cover hold down stakes, grommets and hardware, and during the install of those, Angiel drove one through a return line which started leaking my pool water down by a foot, but didn’t say anything; that cost $$$ to get a water delivery and when that didn’t resolve the leak, I had to contract a leak detection company which cost me more hundreds of dollars, but didn’t repair the pipe, which was estimated to be $1800 at that time but they had no schedule openings, and now they are unavailable. There was no acknowledgment of responsibility from Excellence Masonry and no offer of service or repairs, and frankly I got attitude from the owners when I suggested I withhold a grand to cover the costs. Repairs will be more than twice that much. Poor scheduling; poor communication, poor workmanship and poor follow up not to mention misrepresentation of their ability to perform the contracted project. Now (6 months later) their work on the patio is showing signs of failure and cracking! Definitely not a good place to go to for quality work.

Super happy I went with Excellence! They take a holistic approach to their projects and you feel like you’re in great hands the whole time. Even if you aren’t used to doing bigger construction projects they’ll educate, guide, and keep you in the loop 100% of the time. 10/10 highly recommend🙌🏽

Had my back deck redone and a new patio put in, and I love it. The communication was also awesome while building it, and beforehand they were able to present options and potential costs so quickly and clearly.

I would definitely recommend Excellence for complicated projects. They were able to take care of my whole project which was nice, I didn’t want to pay a lot of money to a bunch of different contractors and still end up being my own contractor, organizing a million things and people. We are in Washington Depot
