Faber Rug Co. is the Wellesley shop people go to once they already know a stair runner, a custom-woven area rug, or a house full of wall-to-wall carpet is coming, and want someone who can walk them through fibers, weaves, and colors in person rather than order online. The company says it opened in Wellesley in 1954 and is now run by a third generation of the Faber family, and Ryan, Kyle, and other relatives keep showing up by name in review after review as the ones who helped pick a rug. That personal-attention experience is the thing that repeats across the Google history: shoppers describe being walked through sample rooms with a budget and a deadline in hand, coming home with exactly the piece they wanted. One buyer said she's been coming back for 35 years. On the installation side, a 2025 review described a stair runner swapped for a new one with a Hollywood mount, calling the planning, cleanup, and precision on point, and Faber's Better Business Bureau file carries an A+ grade. Two 2025 reviews are worth knowing about before booking an installation. Both described stairway runners that came loose or started fraying within months, and both said getting Faber to respond and follow through took weeks once they raised it — a different experience from the showroom praise above, and worth asking about directly if the job in mind is an installation rather than a straightforward rug purchase. For choosing and buying a rug, carpet, or custom weave, the showroom experience carries decades behind it — the company still lists carpets, orientals, vinyls, tile, custom rugs, and wood flooring among what it sells and installs. For an installation specifically, it's worth confirming upfront how Faber handles a callback if something needs adjusting.
“In late November of 2005, the Wellesley Historical Society’s Holiday Junction first appeared in the windows of Faber’s Rug Co. on Central Street, and it has been there ever since. ... “December can be a relatively slow month in the rug business,” said Bob Faber, “so it was fairly easy for us to accommodate the trains, toys, and dollhouse that the Society displays each holiday season. We continue to get calls from parents and grandparents in November asking if it’ll be set up again, and this year wasn’t any different.” ... The train layout belongs to Society member Allan Cook, and the dollhouse”
“Alta Strada, J. McLaughlin, Wellesley Books, J.P. Licks, Truly's Ice Cream, Marathon Sports, Faber Rug Co., Le Petit Four Bakery. These aren't new concepts auditioning for a spot.”
As first time homebuyers, we wanted to purchase beautiful rugs while staying within a budget and working on a tight timeline. Ryan and the entire team at Faber Rugs went above and beyond to help us find the perfect options that fit both our style and our budget all while meeting our deadline flawlessly. From start to finish, the staff was warm, responsive, knowledgeable, and genuinely enjoyable to work with. The entire experience was seamless. We couldn't be happier with the results and highly recommend Faber Rugs to anyone looking for exceptional service and quality. Thank you again to Ryan and the entire team!
I would be remiss for not taking the time to “shout from rooftops” about my positive experience with Faber Rugs. Ryan was my primary salesperson/designer with his brother Kyle assisting as well. Both have a superb sense of what will work in a room from sizing to decor to color. I brought fabric samples in - both patiently showed me rug after rug. They have such a huge collection! We narrowed it to 5 and they offered to bring them to the house so I could view in the room! We chose a hand woven sea foam green and crème. The colors in the rug are beautiful and it is tightly woven as it should be. I couldn’t be happier and recommend Faber rugs with the upmost confidence.
The only place to buy area rugs, wall to wall carpet, or custom sized rugs! Family owned, been around for generations, quality stuff, great installation!!
