Freel & Sons Electric is a Milford, NH family business that says it's been doing residential and commercial electrical work since 1971 (BBB records show incorporation in 1988), run by David Freel with a crew that includes other electricians. It's a certified Kohler generator installer and covers house wiring, new construction, landscape lighting, and pool, sauna and spa circuits across southern New Hampshire, northern Massachusetts and southern Maine. Two reviewers describe using the company for 10 and 30 years respectively, and the specific jobs in between back up that loyalty. A 2025 review described lightning knocking out a well pump — Freel diagnosed the problem in under 40 minutes and had it running again in under two hours, for a fraction of a $10,000-plus competing quote. Another 2025 review describes David arriving the same evening for an outage Eversource couldn't fix. Pool electrical, new-construction wiring, and generator installs round out the specific work reviewers describe across the past five years. The record isn't spotless, though. A 2023 review described a 2021 outdoor kitchen project where the owner was often unavailable and sent workers who hadn't been properly briefed, resulting in wiring done wrong and poor communication throughout. Another 2023 review described a same-day cancellation after an electrician called out sick. And a 2026 review said a generator switch panel job came in $250 over the original quote with an unclear explanation when the customer asked. The BBB currently grades the business B- and lists it as not accredited, citing a failure to respond to one complaint on file. For a company with this much history, most of it strong, the complaints that do surface point to the same soft spot — communication and oversight when Dave himself isn't the one on site. Worth confirming who's actually doing the work and getting a firm, written quote before a larger job.
“we have an electrician we are loyal to that is also good: Freel Electric out of Milford”
Had Dave take the lead in whole house electrical upgrades and light fixture placement and switch locations. This open new construction open concept needed an expert in light placement and control. Efficient and knowledgeable. He has a great crew that is easy to work with and takes great pride in their work. Dave was fantastic and his lead guy, Keith was as professional as you could wish for.
We recently hired Freel & Sons to install a generator switch panel. They were able to come out quickly and completed the job, which we appreciated. However, the final invoice was $250 higher than the original quote. When we called to ask about the difference, we were told the job took longer than expected, which we understand can happen. We were also told they didn’t want to quote too high upfront because they were concerned we might choose another company. While the team was friendly and we’re grateful to have our generator set up, we were disappointed with how the quote and billing process was handled.
We needed a new, very good generator. Dave Freel helped us in every way. He explained every option and the best choices based on what we wanted. He took a very long time with all assistance and friendly interaction. Then he made a new generator in place with all wiring in place. If you need a big job or not so big, this is the company. This is the people. They know everything and they do it right and they do it fast.
We had an unexpected electrical emergency when our power went out, and Eversource wasn’t able to help us. We called at 8pm, and David came out right away. From the moment he arrived, he was knowledgeable, friendly, and went above and beyond to help us. He quickly diagnosed the breaker issue and had it repaired within the hour—restoring our power and peace of mind the same night! David explained what had gone wrong in clear, simple terms and made sure everything was safe before leaving. His combination of expertise, efficiency, and genuine care truly exceeded our expectations. It’s not easy to find someone who will drop everything and come out so late at night, but David did it with a smile and dedication. We are so grateful for his prompt response and top-notch workmanship. If you need an electrician you can truly rely on—whether for emergencies or general work—we highly recommend Freel & Sons Electric!
IN BRIEF: Lightning knocked out backyard electrical, including line to well pump for irrigation. Best prior estimate was $10k+ replacing a lot. Justin and company id'd the issues under 40 min and had us up and running under 2 hr for way less than $1k. My wife & I are very happy! *****
