Twenty years between paint jobs. That is what one homeowner wrote in June 2026 after Levy Freire's crew came back to repaint a house they had last painted two decades earlier — and while they were there, fixed rot in the overhang, hung a new wooden gate, and built a frame for the lattice under the porch rather than just screwing it up.
Freire Painting & Restoration works out of 865 Stevens Street in Lowell. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active and held in the company's own name. BBB grades the business A+, though it is not accredited, and lists 28 years, three employees and Levy Freire as owner. The company's own site starts the story later, in 2003, with Levy F. subcontracting for a painting outfit in Concord, and calls the business family-owned.
What customers write keeps circling one idea: the painter comes back. One has used them on a historic house since 2017. Another says they have done several jobs and will be the first call next time. A homeowner repainting every room after three years of tenants credited Levy's samples and suggestions with heading off costly colour mistakes. In a 2022 review, someone mid kitchen-and-bath renovation described the sanding, caulking and gap-filling that went in before the walls, ceiling and staircase were painted. Crown molding, picture molding, exterior stairs, lattice, rot repair — the work described in reviews runs well past a roller.
All 22 Google ratings sit at five stars, and ten of the written ones were posted since February 2026. BuildZoom scores the company 94, in the top quarter of Massachusetts licensed contractors, and carries no reviews of its own.
Two sets of paperwork disagree. BBB records the business as started 1 January 1998 and files it as a sole proprietorship under the name Freire Painting And Restoration Lcc, while the state registry and BuildZoom both show the LLC and the company's own site dates itself to 2003. Ask about it if the entity matters to you.
The right call for interior and exterior repainting on an older Lowell-area house where prep and small carpentry matter as much as the finish. Get the scope in writing covering the repair work and not just the paint, and check licence 176924 yourself at the state registry before you sign.

Levy Freire and his team are unmatchable in their excellence. They painted my house 20 years ago, and they just painted it again in 2026. Hard to believe that my house didn't need painting for 20 years, but that's how good they are. My husband and I were out of state when our home was being painted, and we came home to a showplace. They repaired places on the the overhang that were rotted, installed a beautiful new wooden gate, and installed grillwork under the porch. Most painters would have just installed the grillwork, but Levy and his team put up a frame and attached the lattice with screws so it can be removed if anyone needed to get under there to repair a pipe or whatever. Oh also, the bottoms were falling out of my window boxes and Levy repaired and painted those!!
Levy also installed the most beautiful closet doors in my bedroom and hallway. We had folding doors, and he replaced those with beautiful sliding doors. Since we weren't home for months, we trusted him to pick out the doors himself. We are absolutely thrilled.
In 2012 Levy painted my kitchen cabinets. You would think the cabinets came that way; the paint job is perfect.
On of the most important things to me is working with people who care about the people they are doing work for. Levy is caring and will treat your home or business as his own. He takes pride in what he does. And he should...because he is the best of the best!!! If I could give Levy 100 stars I would!!!
Levy always does an excellent job whether its painting, carpentry or construction. He has removed very old wallpaper and painted my kitchen, built outside stairs and added lattice to the sides. Always on time, reasonably priced and I have been well satisfied with his work. Absolutely giving him the highest rating possible. He has done a great deal of remodeling and I have never been disappointed.
