Galant Home Improvement & Remodeling says it has been servicing clients for over 30 years, working with architects and private clients to develop concept designs into custom homes. On Google it carries 3.7 stars from 3 ratings. A 2023 Google customer called working with this contractor a nightmare. That 2023 customer said they paid him over $20k and withheld $800 at the end because of a lack of communication about additional costs. In 2023, the customer also said they had to redo electrical work because it wasn't up to code, that the installed cabinets had damage, and that the backsplash had unfilled grout holes and uneven, poorly cut tiles. In an email to the contractor posted with that 2023 review, the customer wrote that they still had no written cost estimates for add-ons including countertops, cabinets and flooring, and had never received the change orders the contract called for. Connecticut lists its home improvement contractor registration, HIC.0644826, as active, held by Galant Home Improvement & Remodeling Inc.
See email below we sent while working with this contractor. Was a nightmare. Paid him over $20k and we withheld 800$ at the end because of lack of communication of additional costs. In addition to the issues below, We ended up having to redo electrical work because it wasn’t up to code, and when we called him after project completion because of electrical issues, he told our electrician that we “can kiss his ass”. Note that the cabinets that were installed had damages but rather than deal with him any further, we are sucking it up and finding another way to fix the doors. The backsplash was done extremely sloppily (grout holes were unfilled; tiles are uneven and not smooth, as well as poorly cut), and several other contractors commented on this. Crown moulding had seams in the middle rather than at the edges We had to hire someone to re-do floors. damage. Yanni A few things 1. We spoke to the Condo superintendent. We mentioned the vent was never fully connected. Thinking it through, the smoke and heat vented upwards through that vent hole, even without the metal vent in between, as it was still an open venting space, and made its way up through the vent in the corner. The sup believed it is something important to have and we agree. So we would like have that vent in place still. Can you still please do those cut outs and add the vent? 2. Today we noticed the flooring installed was much longer flooring than all the original wood flooring. Naturally that is going to make the kitchen floor look different. We would like it to look all the same. You never mentioned to us that the flooring would be done with longer sized pieces. 3. About 97 inches from the back wall, the originally installed wood flooring starts to angle a few degrees. You mentioned that you had a problem at one point when i checked in yesterday, but didnt communicate with us about the extent of the angling problem or how you were going to fix it. We see you fixed the problem by adding an irregularly sized strip. This is going to make overall flooring look not so nice right? Wouldnt it have been possible to strip out pieces of flooring where the angle starts and just do the flooring correctly? As it is now, we see some big gaps in flooring where the new flooring starts. 4. We still dont have written cost estimates for any of the add-ons, including countertops, cabinets, flooring etc. In some cases we have no clue of the price will be which scares us. The contract states that we will get change orders with cost updates for additions or changes to original estimate, which we have never received. We are worried it will be more than we expect. 5. We are also concerned that you consistently push to move forward without proper discussion of costs and changes. For example, we didnt get much of a chance to discuss the cabinet designs: you sent a proposed design to us AFTER you placed the order, and told us we had to make any changes by 5p that day because you placed the order at 2p, again before notifying us and without our approval, and we felt like you were irritated when we asked for changes towards end of day. Note that the changes we requested were NOT ordered by this contractor despite our requests being “in” to him on his demanded deadline. 6. The contract also states that unforeseen problems will be brought to customer attention. But with the flooring problem, you did not discuss with us the problems with the angled flooring or options for fixing it and now we have a floor which does not meet our standards or expectations. This is something that needs to be fixed. The bottom line is all of this can be avoided with proper communication and transparency, submitting of change orders, and waiting for us to discuss and approve changes before moving forward. As is we want to talk about redoing the floor so it looks good and matches existing flooring. We are not trying to cause problems, upset you or question your expertise, but we do question the communication and willingness to discuss issues and involve us in decisions before moving forward.
