Gate City Fence has been building fences out of the same Ledge Street address in Nashua long enough that the family running it is on its fourth generation. The company says it has been family owned and operated since 1947; its Better Business Bureau file dates the business to that year, records incorporation in 1965, and names Kenneth Forrence Jr. as owner with Charles Forrence as president. It installs and repairs chain link, vinyl, wood and aluminum fencing plus hand railings for homes and businesses, cuts sections and gates to size in its own workshops, and keeps a showroom customers can walk into. Google gives it 4.7 stars from 63 ratings, and the reviews run from 2014 through 2026, almost all of them five-star. What people write about is specific rather than flattering: cedar fences with posts they call rock solid, custom gates fitted into awkward corners and sloped runs, and repairs where rotted posts were swapped out and a leaning fence re-racked straight. Repeat business shows up plainly. A homeowner writing in 2018 said their first Gate City fence lasted over twenty years and they never considered anyone else for the second; a 2023 customer said vinyl fencing installed five years earlier had held up before they added seventy feet of black chain link. Punctuality and cleanup come up again and again — one 2024 reviewer said the repair crew left no sign they had been in the yard — and the office staff get thanked by name, with Celeste, Melissa and Megan each singled out. Two reviews break the pattern. In May 2026 someone said they watched a crew drill through the root system of a tree on a neighbouring property, six inches from the trunk; worth raising directly if your fence line runs near mature trees you or a neighbour care about. A 2023 two-star reviewer called the company "not very responsible" but described no job. Separately, a 2024 customer said a sloped run took longer than quoted, though they put that down to the terrain rather than the crew. A couple of details are worth confirming when you call. The company's own site says seventy-five years serving the Greater Nashua area while its BBB file counts seventy-nine from a 1947 start, and the Bureau grades it A+ without it being an accredited business. On price, one customer said the final bill came in below the written proposal and another called the pricing competitive — still, get the number in writing. For a straightforward residential fence, a custom gate, or a repair on a fence somebody else built, this is a shop with a long and recent history of that exact work.
Fabulous cedar fencing; call Celeste and give her an opportunity to quote your job; she'll take good care of you.
Watched their crew drill a massive hole through the root system of a tree on a neighboring property, 6 inches from the base of the tree trunk.
DIY'er - Custom sized cedar fence sections and multiple gates. Quality lumber, solidly built, fast turnaround from order to delivery. Melissa and front office are a pleasure - and patient. Build crew very helpful spotting potential issues. Gate City was the key to success of project.
The fence looks great. The process was easy. It was even cheaper than the proposal. I highly recommend this company.
Megan was very helpful. She was a joy to work with. I will be using this company for all my fencing needs, mostly because of the courteous staff, like Megan
