Gomes Construction Co

Gomes Construction Co is a Ludlow-based site work and civil construction contractor, run by Mark Gomes, that has held Massachusetts Women Business Enterprise and Portuguese Business Enterprise certifications since the 1980s, both verified active through 2029. The company shows a 3.7-star average on Google from nine ratings. In a 2021 Google review, a repeat customer who had used the company on multiple projects called Mark Gomes and his crew "top notch," specifically praising their site work. Two other 2021 reviews described friendly staff, good pricing on materials, and quick service. The company has also handled public infrastructure work: a 2015 business-press account named it as the contractor selected for a phase of the Ludlow Mills Riverwalk redevelopment, and a 2021 newspaper account described its equipment staged for I-91 bridge work in Northampton, with periodic lane closures during that project. One 2021 Google review pushed back, calling out early-morning work — waking neighbors at 6am — as poor business practice. The written review record here is dated to 2021 rather than recent, and stays thin at four reviews total. BuildZoom's own listing shows no verified license on file, and the company is not BBB-accredited, though neither points to an actual finding against the business, just an absence of that particular verification. Gomes looks like a credentialed, established pick for site work and excavation on both residential and public projects, backed by a genuine repeat-customer relationship and real civic project history, but the review base is small enough that it is worth asking for recent references and confirming current licensing directly before signing on.
