When I first began searching for a home inspector, I wasn't even sure Lucian Benway of Green Mountain Home Inspections would be willing to travel all the way from the St. Albans area to inspect a property for me in Castleton. I was pleasantly surprised when he didn't hesitate and told me he'd be happy to help. From the very beginning, communication was excellent. Lucian was responsive, professional, and easy to reach throughout the entire process. During the inspection, I followed him around for much of the day and asked what must have been 30+ questions. Not once did he seem impatient or annoyed. He took the time to explain what he was seeing, why it mattered, and what concerns warranted further investigation. His communication style is direct, honest, and easy to understand, which is exactly what you want from a home inspector. What impressed me most was his professionalism, thoroughness, and integrity. If a question fell outside his area of expertise, he simply said so. He didn't speculate or make something up. Instead, he recommended the appropriate professional to consult for a more definitive answer. Lucian also isn't afraid to put in the extra effort. During my inspection, he went out of his way to access a tight and dirty crawlspace area that would have been easy for someone to dismiss as too difficult or inconvenient to inspect. Rather than taking shortcuts, he made every reasonable effort to examine as much of the property firsthand as possible. He also utilized thermal imaging to identify heating registers that were not functioning properly and deployed a drone to perform a close inspection of a slate roof. Those extra steps demonstrated a level of diligence that I greatly appreciated. Most importantly, his attention to detail helped uncover significant issues that ultimately factored into my decision-making process and potentially saved me from making a very costly mistake. As a pharmacist, I spend my career evaluating information, identifying risks, and making decisions based on evidence rather than assumptions. That's one of the reasons I appreciated Lucian's approach so much. He provided facts, clear explanations, and honest assessments every step of the way. His knowledge, professionalism, patience, and willingness to educate me throughout the inspection gave me tremendous confidence in his work.
