HALMAC CONSTRUCTION describes itself as an owner-led construction company that has been involved in the Passive House movement for over 10 years. Its BuildZoom profile calls it a full-service general contractor specializing in full gut renovations, kitchen and bathroom remodeling, additions and new builds, and its website says it has been in business 20 years. A 2025 customer said HALMAC handled a full-gut carriage house renovation, kept them informed throughout and kept the project within budget, offering solutions when unexpected challenges came up. That 2025 customer named Paddy and Chris. In a 2025 review, a customer described renovating and expanding an existing cottage into a net-zero home in a historic neighborhood, and credited Patrick, Chris and the team. A 2020 Houzz reviewer said Paddy and his team worked to ease the transition and keep a complex townhouse renovation running smoothly after the prior architect closed its doors shortly after demolition. That 2020 reviewer described the job as a deep energy retrofit with Passive House detailing.
We had an outstanding experience with HALMAC during the entire process of our full-gut, carriage house renovation. They were incredibly honest and transparent, always keeping us informed and ensuring the project stayed within budget. When we encountered some unexpected challenges, they offered thoughtful, creative and appropriate solutions. Their customer service and attention to quality control was amazing, ensuring every detail was perfect. Working with HALMAC was such a pleasure and we couldn’t be happier with the results. We wholeheartedly recommend Paddy, Chris and the whole team. Their professionalism, talent and integrity are incomparable.
Our vision was to renovate and expand an existing cottage into a net-zero home that reflected the detail and integrity of the surrounding historic neighborhood. To do so, required a contractor who could achieve high quality work and was well-versed in super energy efficient construction practices. Through a stroke of luck, we connected with Halmac. It was such a good fit, we didn’t see the need to look further. Through what could have been the most trying time—in the midst of a pandemic, working with clients with high standards (an architect and designer on their own home) Patrick, Chris and team were exceptional partners on every level. Three years out, it’s hard to put into words the appreciation we feel each day for the care and talent they poured into this project and how grateful we are to live and share this space with our friends and family. They’re a rare find. If you have the opportunity, hire Halmac.
It was great to work with him!
Paddy and his team were a pleasure to work with. We met under less than ideal circumstances, when the prior architect on a complex townhouse renovation project suddenly closed their doors shortly after demolition, but the team worked hard to ease the transition and keep the project running smoothly. Their attention to detail, both technical and aesthetic, was critical to the success of the project. This project was a deep energy retrofit with Passive House detailing and Paddy brought a great deal of technical knowledge to the table and was a real on-the-ground problem solver. I would happily work with this team again.
