Handyman Connection of South Shore runs on a bench of named craftsmen, and its recent reviews read like a roster: Grellan finished the drywall, Kevin Kimball fixed a failing bathroom door and a fence in a single visit, Clarke Allan repainted a bathroom and kitchen, Jack cleared a hard-to-reach dryer duct and rebuilt collapsed shelving. Homeowners around Hanover and the South Shore don't just praise the company — they ask for their craftsman back by name. The Hanover-based franchise takes the small-to-midsize jobs many general contractors won't put on the calendar: door and lock repairs, deck and porch carpentry, siding and window swaps, interior painting, flooring, minor electrical, the odd balky toilet. Its Google page sits at 4.8 across 350 ratings, its Better Business Bureau profile is an A+ accredited listing, and the review history is deep and steady — hundreds of reviews stretching back years, with eighteen of them in just the last six months. Two themes recur in the recent reviews. The first is speed: a bathroom door fixed within an hour of the call, a balcony door assessed the same day and finished the next. The second is communication — quotes explained before work starts and craftsmen who lay out the options first. When one homeowner's split basement support beam needed attention, Glenn walked through a couple of approaches and a price the customer thought was fair, then did the work; that arc of explain, quote, do it cleanly is the one people describe most. What's worth asking about is what happens when a job goes sideways. The reviews skew strongly positive, but the sharp exceptions land on the same spot — the owner. A late-April one-star came from a customer who felt owner Dan didn't take their dissatisfaction seriously, and it isn't the only low review that points at how a problem was handled rather than at the craftsmanship. On a straightforward job that rarely surfaces; on a complicated or high-stakes one, settle up front who you call for a second visit and how revisions get handled. For a homeowner working through a punch list — a sticking door, rotted trim, a deck to rebuild, a room to repaint — this is a practiced outfit with a long, consistent history and a roster of craftsmen people trust enough to request again. Confirm the scope and the fix-it process in writing before booking, and because handyman work crosses trades, verify current Massachusetts licensing for any electrical or plumbing portion directly rather than relying on a badge.

I am happy to have found your company. Have used your services many times. From start to finish. Freindly, exceptional work ethics. I will continue to be a patron of Handyman.

We were able to get an estimate within a day or two of reaching out and availablity was flexible. Everyone I spoke with was extremely helpful and took the time to answer any questions we had throughout the process. We were happy with the final drywall work Grellan completed. We got quotes from several companies; Handyman Connection was the best and got the work done in half the time others quoted. A smooth experience and we would definitely use the company again in the future.

I don't write many negative reviews as I know how damaging it can be for a company, however my experience with this company was so egregious that I needed to share. And from my dealings with the owner Dan, I've realized he doesn't particularly value customer satisfaction anyway. We hired this company to paint our newly remodeled kitchen and hallway/laundry area. The painter, who goes by Clark, came out and assessed the job and we got a quote the same day. He was friendly and seemed knowledgeable. We scheduled the job to start a couple of days later. We appreciated the quick turnaround. But that was the extent of the positive. What an absolute nightmare it became. Some of the walls had brand new sheetrock and were already plastered and sanded. Some areas had existing walls with very dark paint which we were painting over in an off white. They did not prime the walls. In fact, you could see the dark coming through in some areas. On the new walls, they kept putting putty on them and then didn't sand them smooth, even though we kept pointing this out. They actually made the walls worse! They got black trim paint on our new hardwood floors. This was not even close to a professional job. My eight-year-old seriously could have done better. When we complained and refused to pay them the balance, the owner Dan came out to look but thought we were "exaggerating". He sent the same painter back to "fix" the issues. We were hopeful that he would. But most of the time he was here he spent in his van DRINKING. After my husband thought he smelled alcohol on him, we noticed he had a Buzzball alcoholic drink sitting right on his dropcloth in our kitchen. You can't make this stuff up! And the pictures speak for themselves, which I will post. So now we are left with having to pay another contractor to redo the walls and/or put up backsplash to cover up the damage they did. Not to mention fixing the damage they did to our floors. And there were other issues, too many to list. I communicated all of this to Dan, but he didn't care. I found him to be very rude with absolutely no people skills. We gave him the opportunity to fix this, and it got even worse. He did not even seem to care that his worker was drinking in my home on the job, which is probably why it came out so bad. The bottom-line is don't walk, RUN from this company.
