Handymen From Heaven is a Needham, MA outfit for the smaller jobs on a homeowner's list — hanging pictures, general fix-it work, working through the honey-do list. The business is family-owned, and the name that keeps coming up across its reviews is Louis, described as the one actually doing the work. The five dated reviews on file run from 2015 to 2016, and the strongest thread through them is reliability when Louis is the one on the job. A 2016 reviewer called his work impeccable, said he showed up on time, kept things clean, and quoted a competitive price. A 2015 reviewer wrote that he actually returns calls and emails — calling that a rare trait in the trade — and works at a fast, meticulous pace. Another, from early 2016, described him working through a list of small tasks around the house and being upfront about anything outside his scope. Two reviews from the same window tell a different story worth knowing before booking. A 2016 review described a driveway seal-coating job that cracked the day after it was done, saying the person who actually did the work hadn't pretreated the cracks properly and had his own son help mix the material. A 2015 review said Louis was hard to reach on a separate job, ignoring calls and texts and failing to follow up on two referrals from the same customer. HomeAdvisor and Angi both list a 4.8-star average from 65 ratings — well above the tone of the handful of detailed reviews actually on file, which skew toward the strongest praise and the sharpest complaints rather than a full cross-section. For everyday small jobs handled personally, the written record is solid; for anything involving outside help brought in for a specialty task, it's worth asking directly who will be doing the work.
Typical Greater Boston range for this kind of work, from regional averages — not a quote from Handymen From Heaven. Use it to sanity-check bids, then get the real number in writing.
A day rate replaces the task list — usually the better deal once the list gets long.

Louis was very professional and his work is impeccable. He was on time very clean and his quotation was competitive. Great company and a great job. Clearly the best in our area.
The day after the seal coating was performed, two areas with cracks reappeared. It appears that the handyman's friend had no idea what he was doing, failed to pretreat the cracks before laying on the seal coat, and had his son do the mixing. The driveway a year later has areas of checkerboarding where the sealcoat was not properly applied. When I complained to the handyman that day, he promised to have the sealcoating done properly When he failed to return, he promised to repay me the $400. A year later, and after several phone calls and texts requesting my payment, no response and no payment.
On time, nice guy, was able to check off a bunch of things around the house. What he couldn't do, he was very clear about.
When Louis decides to work, he is professional and financially reasonable. However, the problem is that he often ignores repeated phone call and text messages, and promises to come and doesn't show up. I recently referred to him two separate jobs with a neighbor and a close friend for ice dam repair. After speaking to both customers and promising to followup, he failed to contact them or proceed with the repairs. I was embarrassed by my referral. The most egregious problem was when I asked him to refer me to someone who could seal coat my driveway. He brought in an unemployed friend who, with his thirteen-year-old son (the mixer), put down the seal coating. Because the cracks in the driveway were not properly prepared or the seal coating not properly mixed, the cracks reappeared within 24 hours!! When I contacted Louis the following day, he promised to redo the driveway but never showed up. After several unanswered calls, I texted him to repay me the money spent. He promised to deliver the check within a week but never did so.
Louis works at a rapid pace, but is meticulous and detail-oriented. He is a rare handyman who has proven to be skilled, smart, responsive and reliable. He actually returns phone calls and emails (an uncommon trait among people in his profession), has a delightful personality, and shows up on time for appointments. It was a pleasure to have Louis in our home today.
