A 2026 customer said HRD installed a walk-in shower for the reviewer's 106-year-old grandmother and that the project went just as planned. HandyWorks Remodeling & Design's own site lists kitchen remodeling, bathroom remodeling, walk-in showers, tub-to-shower conversions and home additions, with a stated service area that includes Wallingford, Meriden, Middletown and North Haven. On Google it holds 4.8 stars from 96 ratings, and its BBB page shows an A+ grade and accreditation. A 2024 customer said the company replaced a leaking, curbless tiled shower floor with a Swanstone shower pan, rerouting plumbing as needed, and that Ricardo cut and Dylan set narrow tiles to bridge the gap to the bathroom floor. A 2025 customer described a half-bath converted to a full bath, with carpentry, plumbing, electrical and duct-work involved and permits pulled. A 2026 customer said a full bathroom remodel was finished in a little over two weeks and that everything was covered in plastic before the job started. A 2025 customer said HRD took down walls, did a complete kitchen remodel and added new flooring and HVAC, finishing within the quoted timeline of six to eight weeks. In a 2025 review, a customer described a load-bearing wall removed between the kitchen and dining room, with recessed lighting, new cabinets and new ductwork to vent a range hood, and said the cost was more than they had initially intended to spend. A recent customer said they went with HRD for a full roof replacement on a newly purchased home. A recent customer said the company called them from a lead generator's list, asked about a budget right away, and said it would not come out if the customer was concerned about money. A 2025 customer said they were quoted $15k to $20k for a kitchen job without anyone coming out to look at it. In a long 2025 review, a customer said misaligned tiles had to be redone, the countertop sagged near the dishwasher until Keith added a bracket, and part of the floor was built up with leveler without their consent. A 2022 customer said the workers did a good job but management misled them, and that the local building inspector had to step in over a major electrical problem.
Terrible company. Start off by saying I DID NOT CALL THIS COMPANY. They called me. And when I asked them where they got my information they said they got in from a lead generator, fine. He asked about a budget, right off the bat. Rude. I explained that my husband and I have 3-4 contractors come out and bid a job. That is how you interview a contractor and how you get the best deal. However this company went on to say that if I was worried about a budget and concerned about my money they wouldn’t even bother coming out. They wanted me to know they were expensive and their cabinets were beyond compare (please I’ve designed and remodeled two homes and the last one was in a magazine) you don’t need crazzzzzy expensive cabinets. This company is a total scam. Any company worth their salt would WELCOME you having other contractors bid the job. Very sleazy. Picture is to show proof it was Handyworks calling.
I noticed there weren't any reviews for roofing work, so we thought we'd add our experience: We went with HRD because of their attention to detail from the start. We needed a full roof replacement on our newly-purchased home, and Jesse impressed us in initial talks; he studied our real estate photos closely enough to identify our issue based on a photo. We then had a detailed, in-person assessment from the roofer. HRD's roofer is named Jack, we requested and received a copy of his individual license and HRD's certificate of insurance. The payment structure is quite sensible, and Jesse was communicative in tying up small loose ends. We were told Jack is dedicated to good work; Spring 2026 has been quite rainy and the roof has been great! We also had some misc. interior work done by Jesse's interior crew, and the quality of the interior work is excellent. All around professional work and professional customer service, we plan to use HRD again.
Very personable and professional service. Highly knowledgeable about all aspects of our project.
I'm grateful for the positive reviews for Home Remodeling and Design. Those reviews that led us to contact them regarding our bathroom refresh and here's to this review has the same effect. The work we were looking for was to replace tub, shower, and sink hardware, replace faulty shower doors, and create an access panel for the tub/shower pipes in an adjacent room. Jesse listened to our requirements and provided options that fit them. He was thorough and communicated clearly from the site survey, to discussing the quote, from reviewing the scope of work and schedule, to the follow up after the work was complete. HRD staff was respectful of our property and performed quality work. The team that put down the flooring protection did such a great job - the materials survived our foot (and paw) traffic over the couple days before the work started and kept the floors protected throughout the work. The team that performed the work - Ricardo and Dylan - were fantastic. They were friendly and polite, kept us up to date on the work and timeline for the day, and ensured we were well informed when we needed to make a couple cosmetic choices. Once the work completed the HRD team cleaned up nicely and it was like they were never there. Except for the shiny new hardware they just installed. HRD will be our first call next time we need work done in our home.
HRD just finished up an installation of a walk in shower for my 106 year old grandmother. What an incredible job they did. Jesse was the easiest individual to deal with...straight forward, honest, knowledgeable, and detail orientated. The HRD warehouse, demo, construction, and cleanup crews were top notch. The project went just as planned and when completed you would not have known they were even there. Gram is extremely happy and we would recommend HRD to all who need a home remodel of any kind completed. Great job HRD. No detail left undone!
