Hanley Construction says on its website that it was started in 1953 by Robert Hanley as a 1-man, 1-truck masonry business serving customers on and around the Pemaquid Peninsula, and that it is now in its third generation. A 2023 customer said Hanley Construction redesigned the prior home owner's septic design and obtained state approval, and that the owner, or owner's son Stewart Hanley, supervised and took part in the most critical steps. A 2022 customer said Hanley Construction installed a septic system, provided excavation to create a stream, resurfaced their private road and created a parking area. A 2022 customer described clearing and excavation of building sites, septic installation, paved driveways and hillside landscapes with rock walls, steps and stone pathways, and credited Mark and Stewart Hanley and their team. A 2022 customer said Mark, Stewart and crew took on lifting a house on an impossibly small lot when no one else was willing to do it. A 2022 customer listed excavation, foundation digging, septic installation, culvert work and driveway refinishing among the projects Hanley did for them. A 2022 customer said owner Stuart Hanley led their 2 projects, an environmentally friendly septic system and a large natural stone wall, and kept them informed. A 2025 customer called the company honest, fair and dependable. A local news site has reported that Bristol-based Hanley Construction filed a lawsuit against the Edgecomb Board of Selectmen and Road Commissioner Scott Griffin over blocked access to a gravel pit on Mt. Hunger Road.
“The Bristol Board of Selectmen approved a $17,940 change order with Hanley Construction, Inc., for the Old County Road culvert replacement during an emergency meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 28.”

These guys know what they’re doing. Honest, fair and dependable. Just what you’re looking for with construction work.
Hanley Construction redesigned the prior home owner’s septic design and obtained state approval saving us many thousands of dollars. They started and completed the effort on time. Their team was experienced, proactive and courteous. The owner, or owner’s son Stewart Hanley, supervised and participated in the most critical steps of the project to ensure it was done per design and without error. They worked with us to clear adjacent areas of brush and left the area smooth and ready for seed which will be their last step. I highly recommend them, they have the experience and capital resources to start and complete a critical project on time and well done.
We have dealt with Hanley Construction for over 15 years, including roadwork, site work, septic system, foundations, hardscape, plowing & sanding. Great capabilities and excellent customer focus.
Fast courteous response. Excellent workmanship. Definitely recommend to my friends.
Hanley Construction installed a Septic System, provided excavation services to create a stream, resurfaced our private road, created a parking area and provided material delivery throughout the summer as we needed it. They were very responsive, professional and clearly experienced, providing consultative guidance and access to other local contractors when we needed work done outside of their expertise. We have worked with many contractors in the area and Hanley Construction is at the top of the list in terms of professionalism, cost, experience and competence.
