Hillman Construction does masonry and hardscape work, and a 2025 customer said the company removed a crumbling retaining wall and installed a new wall with proper drainage and crushed stone. A 2025 customer said Ian met them at a hardscape supply store to help select stones for a patio, which was finished with a fire pit. In a 2025 review, a customer said a masonry landing and stairs went in instead of the solid granite slabs they had first pictured, and that on the last day the crew pulled and replaced a paver that had an imperfection. A 2025 customer said Ian met them in a downpour to discuss hardscape options and used his equipment to save them time and money on a related project. The state registry lists construction supervisor license CS-028704, in the name of DEAN T HILLMAN, as expired; the registry's own word is "Null and Void." On the Better Business Bureau, the company has an A+ grade. In a recent 1-star review, a customer said Ian built a bluestone 40'x8' farmers porch three years earlier with poly sand joints that looked half wet most of the time, and that they had to hire another contractor to dig out the material and mortar all the joints. The same customer said wide granite stairs Ian built at their front entrance sink deeper each year, and that a 12-foot pad at the back door supporting two condensing units is sinking and breaking up. That customer said Ian promised to come over in November to help and called that a lie, and wrote that most everything he did needed or still needs repair.
DO NOT USE IAN Three years ago we had him do our new bluestone 40’x8’ farmers porch. It was done with poly sand joints and looked half wet most all the time - it looked awful. We had to hire another contractor to come and dig out all the material and mortar all the joints - expensive!! Everyone said they never should have used poly sand! He also did the wide granite stairs at our front entrance which sinks deeper each year and needs repair badly on a three-year old project! Now our steps are uneven and need repair badly. The back door entrance, he did a 12’ long pad that also supported our two condensing units. This slab is also sinking and breaking up. I begged Ian to at least help with this as the AC units are making noises as they are no longer level. Ian said he would come over in November. Of course he lied about that. Do not use him!! Most everything he did needed or still needs repair.
5 stars. why not 10 stars !! where to begin Ian was super accomodating at answering 'all' my questions and where `all` was probably 25+. He met us at another job site of his in progress. He also met us at a local concrete supply house to discuss option. Also discussed a number of times as to how to address a 9ft+ landing which I initially envision as solid granite slabs. But that presented a number of challenges. Instead we went for a masonry constructed landing/stairs and couldnt be happier. As I work from home I got to watch the install every day. Not enough to get in the way but enough that 2-3 times I could check in on progress and ask questions along the way. His crew worked super hard and very very professional. On the last day they saw a paver which had a imperfection. If I had a magnifying glass maybe I would have noticed. Nope it wasnt good enough for the crew. Just not good enough and they pulled and replaced the paver. Quality, Quality, and more Quality. Would I recommend. Absolutely without a second thought.
We recently had the pleasure of working with Ian on our patio project, and we couldn’t be happier with the results. From the beginning, Ian was incredibly patient as we explored our options and figured out exactly what we wanted. He made multiple visits to our home to listen to our ideas, offer guidance, and help us visualize the possibilities for the space. Ian even took the time to meet us at a hardscape supply store to help select the perfect stones something that truly went above and beyond. His experience and creativity were invaluable throughout the process. The finished patio, complete with a beautiful fire pit, came out better than we could have imagined. The workmanship is top notch and clearly built to last. We’ve already received so many compliments on it. If you're looking for someone who is skilled, professional, and truly cares about delivering a great product, we highly recommend Ian.
Ian and his team were exceptional—professional, communicative, responsive, timely, and proactive problem-solvers. Ian stood out as a great collaborator, meeting us in a downpour to discuss hardscape options, using his equipment to save us time and money on a related project, and even helping to manage another company that was slow to progress. Overall, it was a five-star experience, and I highly recommend them.
I can’t say enough great things about Hillman construction. The work speaks for itself. They removed a crumbling retaining wall for us and installed a new wall with proper drainage and crushed stone. The new wall is absolutely beautiful! Ian Rob, and the rest of the crew members are experts.
