HKF Construction has racked up 85 Google ratings averaging 4.9 stars and a matching 5.0 across 46 Thumbtack reviews — the kind of volume that's hard to fake. The company is based in Medford and, by its own account, is a woman-owned general contracting business run by owner Hayce Freitas, with roughly a decade in the trade taking on bathroom remodels, additions, decks, and porches. The last six months tell a mostly steady story, with one real exception. A January review praised clear, proactive updates on a bedroom renovation and basement window replacement. In March, a homeowner hired HKF to insulate a bathroom wall and protect pipes from freezing; the crew finished in a single day, and the fix held through a hard freeze that followed. Another March review, for something as small as putting up a sign, still noted the crew showed up on time and worked around a tight schedule. The exception is a June review from a homeowner who liked working with Hayce directly — calling her responsible, punctual, and easy to reach — but was unhappy with the crew's actual work: a newly framed wall wasn't leveled, leaving visibly tapering tile, and the reviewer raised a more serious concern about an electrical crew drilling into something it shouldn't have. It's the only negative note in a run of otherwise five-star reviews stretching back to 2021 across two platforms, but it's a specific complaint, not a vague gripe. Beyond that, HKF's licensing rests on a self-reported Unrestricted Construction Supervisor License listed on its Thumbtack profile — worth asking to see directly rather than taking on faith, since it isn't independently confirmed here. For a bathroom remodel, a deck or porch rebuild, or a similar renovation — the jobs that show up again and again in its history — HKF's track record holds up. Given the June complaint, it's reasonable to ask specifically who will be on-site for any structural or electrical portion of the work before signing a contract.

I want to start by saying that the owner, Hayce, is very responsible, punctual, easy to communicate, and did her absolute best to accommodate our scheduling and needs. She always try to keep the job site as clean as possible which we really appreciate. However, the crew she hired for the actual labor were disappointed.

First, they framed a new false wall without proper leveling. The tiles visibly taper and get narrower as they goes down, which is a major cosmetic we are unsatisfied.(first picture)

Second, and much more serious, the electricians(more like kids actually) drilled massive 1.5-inch holes across more than 15 load-bearing, supporting studs just to run standard electrical wires. It is totally unnecessary to weakened the structure. There were much better, professional ways to do this, like drilling small 0.5-inch holes or routing the wires through the ceiling and running the wires down in between the studs. Basically they were not thinking and not working smart.

We recently hired HKF Construction for a full home renovation, and the experience was exceptional from start to finish. Hayce and her team are the gold standard of professional contractors. Their attention to detail, clear communication, fast execution, and commitment to quality are rare in this industry. Every phase was managed with precision with excellent communications, and the final result exceeded our expectations. If you want a team that is organized, skilled, and trustworthy, look no further. Attached are some before and after pictures.

We had a seamless experience working with HKF Construction to improve the insulation inside our bathroom wall and help protect the pipes from freezing. Throughout the process, Hayce was very professional and friendly, and we felt the estimates were very reasonable.

Her team completed the job in just one day—removing the bathroom fixtures, opening the wall, adding insulation, and then restoring everything afterward. When they were done, everything was clean and looked just as it was before the work started!

A couple nights later it was well below freezing, and the pipes were just fine even without dripping them. We really appreciate their help and would definitely consider HKF again for future projects!

We recently hired HKF for a bedroom renovation and to replace several windows in our basement, and we couldn’t be happier with the results. From start to finish, Hayce and Christine were excellent communicators—always clear, responsive, and proactive about updates or decisions that needed to be made.

They brought in reliable, highly skilled specialists for each part of the job, and it really showed in the quality of the work. Their pricing was competitive, they stayed very close to the original budget, and the entire project was completed on the promised timeline.

Renovations can be stressful, but HKF made the process feel organized and under control. The finished bedroom looks fantastic, and the new basement windows have completely transformed the space. I would absolutely recommend her to anyone looking for a trustworthy, professional contractor who delivers high-quality work without surprises.
