HKF Construction is a Medford design-build outfit led by owner Hayce, and the reviews describe a shop that takes on projects other contractors won't touch — moving load-bearing walls, gutting 19th-century houses, and rebuilding decks and porches from the ground up. The written record is deep: 67 reviews since 2021 across Google and Thumbtack, most describing full renovations rather than small fixes. In a 2025 review, a homeowner described HKF moving an internal load-bearing wall to add a back door, straightening the stairs to a newly finished attic, replacing first-floor windows, and building a new patio, all in one project. In a 2023 review, another described a full gut renovation of the upper floor of an 1886 house that stayed on schedule and on budget. And in a 2022 review, a customer described a crew rebuilding a roof deck and replacing the flat roofing beneath it entirely from outside on ladders, without disconnecting the rooftop AC unit. Local Reddit threads back this pattern up — HKF gets named by homeowners answering requests for general contractor recommendations, including for a third-floor attic conversion. Not every account is glowing. A June 2026 review praised Hayce's own communication and site cleanliness but described the hired crew's actual labor as disappointing — a false wall framed without proper leveling, leaving the tile visibly tapering, and what the reviewer called a more serious issue with the electrical work. Separately, the company's Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration currently shows as expired in the state registry — worth confirming directly before signing anything. For a full room renovation, an addition, or a structural change in an older house, this is squarely the scope HKF's record shows it can handle — just confirm current licensing, and given the one workmanship complaint, walk the finished work closely before signing off.
“We had an awesome experience using Peter Miller for the architectural planning and HKF Construction for the actual work. Third floor unfinished attic converted to livable space.”
“HKF Construction. Immigrant woman owner, and an absolute treasure.”
“HKF Construction, they added a bath for us and were great”
I want to start by saying that the owner, Hayce, is very responsible, punctual, easy to communicate, and did her absolute best to accommodate our scheduling and needs. She always try to keep the job site as clean as possible which we really appreciate. However, the crew she hired for the actual labor were disappointed. First, they framed a new false wall without proper leveling. The tiles visibly taper and get narrower as they goes down, which is a major cosmetic we are unsatisfied.(first picture) Second, and much more serious, the electricians(more like kids actually) drilled massive 1.5-inch holes across more than 15 load-bearing, supporting studs just to run standard electrical wires. It is totally unnecessary to weakened the structure. There were much better, professional ways to do this, like drilling small 0.5-inch holes or routing the wires through the ceiling and running the wires down in between the studs. Basically they were not thinking and not working smart.
We recently hired HKF Construction for a full home renovation, and the experience was exceptional from start to finish. Hayce and her team are the gold standard of professional contractors. Their attention to detail, clear communication, fast execution, and commitment to quality are rare in this industry. Every phase was managed with precision with excellent communications, and the final result exceeded our expectations. If you want a team that is organized, skilled, and trustworthy, look no further. Attached are some before and after pictures.
We had a seamless experience working with HKF Construction to improve the insulation inside our bathroom wall and help protect the pipes from freezing. Throughout the process, Hayce was very professional and friendly, and we felt the estimates were very reasonable. Her team completed the job in just one day—removing the bathroom fixtures, opening the wall, adding insulation, and then restoring everything afterward. When they were done, everything was clean and looked just as it was before the work started! A couple nights later it was well below freezing, and the pipes were just fine even without dripping them. We really appreciate their help and would definitely consider HKF again for future projects!
HKF Construction did a great job with putting up my sign. They were professional, on time and worked with my busy schedule. Check out the sign they put up in the picture below. 🙌🏻
We recently hired HKF for a bedroom renovation and to replace several windows in our basement, and we couldn’t be happier with the results. From start to finish, Hayce and Christine were excellent communicators—always clear, responsive, and proactive about updates or decisions that needed to be made. They brought in reliable, highly skilled specialists for each part of the job, and it really showed in the quality of the work. Their pricing was competitive, they stayed very close to the original budget, and the entire project was completed on the promised timeline. Renovations can be stressful, but HKF made the process feel organized and under control. The finished bedroom looks fantastic, and the new basement windows have completely transformed the space. I would absolutely recommend her to anyone looking for a trustworthy, professional contractor who delivers high-quality work without surprises.
