A local news page names Stephen Hogan of Hogan Excavating, a Cabot-based firm. The company's website describes demolition, hauling, site preparation and site improvement for home and business owners across Central Vermont, and it holds a 5-star Google rating from 61 ratings. A recent customer with a 450 ft driveway full of holes said Steve's estimate was the highest of three, but he had a roto mill, a rock grader and a roller, and the driveway now looks like concrete. A recent reviewer said Stephen Hogan graded an old driveway, put down new gravel and packed it in a few hours. One recent customer's project of widening a driveway, excavating the uphill side, building the base of a stone wall, and installing drainage and landscape fabric took two days. A recent customer had Steve install a driveway and culvert and said he helped with the planning and local permitting process and brought out an engineer to perc test the property. On one recent customer's farm, Stephen worked with USDA NRCS engineers to plan and complete two ford style stream crossings for cattle. A recent customer had septic pipes replaced at home and called the fee very fair. A 2025 customer said Steve came out on a Sunday after a septic emergency and then replaced the part of the septic line that had essentially disintegrated. A recent customer described a hydrant leak at a six foot bury under the barn eaves, blocked by a load bearing beam, which Steve found and repaired. A 2024 reviewer who works as a general contractor hired Steve Hogan for a 5-month sitework project at home that included excavating, stonewalls, septic and drainage, and said Steve ended up supervising other trades. A 2024 customer said Mr. Hogan supplied FEMA with a quote and pictures that helped secure a grant for a half a mile washed out driveway.

We selected Hogan to demolish a small municipal building and restore the site. The work was competitively priced, expertly executed, and the site was left clean. Stephen was responsive and easy to work with. We felt he was 'on our team' rather than 'just a contractor' and he suggested modifications to our site plan that improved utility of the restored space. An added plus was Stephen's ability to deal calmly and professionally with very difficult abutters, resulting in less stress for us and happy neighbors. We have no reservations about recommending Hogan Excavating.

I hired them to raise the ground around my cabin, and they did a great job. They also accommodated my requests and made sure the work was done the way I envisioned it. The whole experience was pleasant, and I really appreciated their professionalism and willingness to work with me. Their pricing was fair, and they were reliable throughout the process. I would definitely recommend Steven and Hogan Excavating to anyone looking for quality work at a reasonable price.

He's the man! My project was relatively small: widening my driveway, excavating the uphill side, create the base of a stone wall, install drainage, landscape fabric.....two days and DONE. Responsive and communicative before and throughout the work, Stephen made sure that expectations were clear. Would I hire him again? Absolutely.
Hogan Excavating did a wonderful job on our driveway at a great price. Vermont is plagued by contractors trying to take advantage of you and/or contractors that are unreliable. Stephen Hogan is not one of them. Hogan Excavating is professional, reliable, and a pleasure to work with. Highly recommend their services no matter the project.
