Holmstead Outdoor Services is a Winsted outfit that pitches land work: managing overgrowth, correcting drainage concerns, expanding usable space and shaping a property "for long-term function in Connecticut." The company says it has been in business 10 years and lists Litchfield, Salisbury, Newtown, Hartford and New Haven as its service area. A recent customer said Holmstead did a walkway for them a few years ago, then hired the company again to mulch the brush that had overgrown the entrance to their property in Colebrook. One recent customer is now on a second project with the company and praised the communication and the results. A 2025 customer who hired the company for a lawn extension praised the grading and said the new grass blended naturally with the yard. A 2025 customer who paid for a full lawn renovation called the work that was done decent but said some of the quoted work was left incomplete, and that they would now need to seed the edges of the yard and the front 5 feet. The 2025 reviewer also said the topsoil ordered was shorted by the yard, yet they still paid the full amount. Its Connecticut home improvement contractor registration, HIC.0666545, is active on the state registry under Holmstead Outdoor Services LLC.
We hired Holmstead Outdoor Services for a second project now. I can only say great things about the communication and the results. They've exceeded my expectations twice now.
Holmstead Outdoor Services did a walkway for me a few years ago, and I was very happy with how it came out. I recently hired them again to mulch the brush that had overgrown the entrance to my property in Colebrook. They were efficient, professional, and did a great job. I look forward to having them complete other projects for me in the future.
I paid Holmstead to do a full lawn renovation. They did a decent job on what was done. Didn't complete all work as promised during walk through and as quoted, but still paid the full amount. It was noted that all the top soil ordered was shorted by the yard, yet I still had to pay the full amount. I'll now need to seed the edges of my yard and the entire front 5 feet next year after a paying for a "full lawn renovation" to ensure the top quality seed and herbicide I provide doesn't get ruined by the previous blend. I suspect this was a quick way to make some money on the weekend, but for me it was to get the lawn my family deserve after constriction this year tore everything up. ***Edit in reply to Holmstead - My admin replies to those types of emails as a courtesy - FYI. You told me yourselves the topsoil was short, so not sure why there's a rebuttal there. Any comment on not completing the edges, especially the front and side which is part of the square footage quoted in the full yard reno? The front and side yard alone would be about 1,000 SQFT not complete, per your quote.... You're welcome to come back in the spring and finish the job if you'd like. You've got my number. Give me a shout then.
We had a great experience working with the team on a lawn extension. They were responsive, professional, and detail-oriented throughout the project. The grading was done perfectly, the new grass looks healthy and blended naturally with our yard, and the whole space already feels like a big upgrade. Several neighbors have noticed and complimented the work. It’s clear they take pride in what they do, and we’d gladly work with them again on future outdoor projects.
