Hubley's specialty is the kitchen you keep. Rather than tearing cabinets out, the Marlborough company strips, repairs and repaints the ones already there, adds millwork or a new island around them, and calls it a transformation — and the reviews that stack up behind it are unusually specific. A homeowner writing this month described a 40-year-old kitchen with cherry-stained cabinets they were nervous about painting, and a finish that came back "absolutely flawless — perfectly smooth". What repeats is project management rather than brushwork. Customers name the people: Matt, Kamil, Dan, Jake. A 2026 reviewer said the company walks you through costs upfront; a 2023 customer with a full gut-and-replace kitchen credited a well-coordinated team of staff and subs; a 2024 customer who chose the wrong paint colour said the crew rescheduled the repaint at her cost to keep the project on track. Carpentry runs alongside the painting — built-ins around a drafty fireplace, a coffered living-room ceiling, mudroom cabinetry built on site, two bathrooms turned into spa showers. The Hopkinton Independent, profiling the company in November 2023, described it as a family business launched from the Hopkinton home of Alvah "Bud" Hubley three decades ago and now focused on kitchens. The honest counterweight is recent. In June 2026 a customer who contracted a kitchen, floors and mudroom renovation in December 2025 and took delivery in April 2026 posted a two-star account saying communication and professionalism declined as the project went on, that they felt dismissed when raising concerns, and that there were multiple quality issues. It is one account against dozens, but it is the newest substantive one and it concerns exactly the larger remodel work the company has moved into. Further back, a 2017 Houzz reviewer described agreeing an exterior job and then never getting a call back. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration, #179917, is active on the state registry under Hubley Painting & Carpentry, Inc. For a kitchen refresh or cabinet repaint in MetroWest, the record is deep and consistent — 62 Google ratings averaging 4.8, a second 4.8 across 25 Houzz reviews, and repeat customers on their third and fourth projects. If you're hiring them for a full renovation rather than a refresh, ask who your project manager is, how change orders and punch-list items get handled, and what the escalation path is when something isn't right.

Five Stars Isn't Enough! We hired Hubley Painting & Remodeling to completely transform our 40-year-old kitchen, including painting our existing cabinets, building two custom cabinets, installing new countertops, lighting and a tile backsplash. From beginning to end, the experience exceeded my expectations. I was honestly nervous about painting our old cherry-stained cabinetry. My biggest concern was ending up with visible brush strokes, chipped paint, or a finish that wouldn't hold up over time. I couldn't have been more wrong. The cabinet finish is absolutely flawless—perfectly smooth with no brush marks, an even sheen, and a durable topcoat that feels hard and well protected. Everyone who walks into our home comments on how beautiful the cabinets are. Most people assume they are brand new. If you're considering having your cabinets painted, look no further than Hubley Painting & Remodeling. The quality of the work was matched only by the quality of the people. Jake, the owner, was outstanding from our very first meeting. He listened carefully to what I wanted, explained every step of the process, answered questions thoroughly, and presented options without ever making me feel pressured. His technical knowledge, craftsmanship, and attention to detail immediately gave me confidence that we had chosen the right company. He set the tone for the entire project with professionalism, honesty, and genuine pride in doing exceptional work. The entire project was well organized, communication at every stage was outstanding, and everyone always knew what was happening next. Every member of the Hubley team—from the Kamil the project manager, carpenters and painters to the electrician and tile installers—was highly skilled, friendly, and respectful. They arrived on time every day, worked hard, paid attention to every detail, and always cleaned up before leaving. The craftsmanship deserves special recognition. The custom cabinetry is beautifully built using quality hardwood materials, dovetail drawer boxes, and soft-close drawers. My brother-in-law is a retired finish carpenter whose work has long been considered among the very best. The craftsmanship of Hubley's carpenter rivaled his own. Perhaps what impressed us most was how much everyone genuinely cared about the finished product. They treated our home with respect, took pride in every detail, and truly wanted us to be happy. By the end of the project, they felt more like trusted friends than contractors. Kitchen renovations can be stressful, but Hubley made the entire experience as easy as possible. We now have a kitchen that is more beautiful than we ever imagined, and we would hire them again without hesitation. If you're looking for outstanding craftsmanship, integrity, and people that truly care about quality; I recommend Hubley Painting & Remodeling without reservation.
Hubley painting and remodeling company did a fantastic job painting our home. The carpenters were exceptional as well as the painting crew. The company is highly organized and will walk you throughout the process so you understand the costs upfront. They are an organization of high integrity which was refreshing because we had a horrible experience with the previous exterior painting job. Hubley painting and remodeling crew support personnel are top notch. It was if they were painting their own home!! They truly cared about the outcome of their work. We have had many a compliment from neighbors and friends. We would highly recommend Hubley and remodeling to our friends and family. Thank you so much for a job well done. We could not be happier!!!!
Hubley was amazing to work with and the results were amazing. Their entire team was fantastic from the initial consult through design, construction and every last detail. We interviewed several contractors before hiring Hubley for our kitchen and I am certain we chose the right one. They are extremely knowledgeable and helpful at every step. They explained every option and every decision point with full cost transparency. I would recommend them to anyone looking to do a home improvement project.
We would like to provide honest feedback regarding our renovation project with Hubley Painting & Remodeling and owner Jake. We contracted with Hubley in December 2025 for a kitchen renovation which included new floors and a remodeled mudroom/entryway. The project was completed in April 2026. Unfortunately, our experience became increasingly disappointing as the project progressed. Communication and professionalism declined significantly, and we often felt dismissed when respectfully raising legitimate concerns about workmanship and project expectations. There were multiple quality issues throughout the renovation that we had to identify and request corrections for ourselves. One major example was the refrigerator enclosure, which was built incorrectly. When we asked for it to be fixed, we were initially told doing so would significantly delay the project and would risk us meeting the deadline for the project. We ultimately still asked for it to be re-done in the correct way and it was ultimately corrected within only a few hours, leaving us wondering why we were told it would significantly delay the timeline. We also encountered several situations that felt unprofessional and disrespectful, including workers leaving our bathroom in unsanitary conditions on more than one occasion. We let it go the first time but once we brought it up to the owner our concerns were dismissed as us “being sensitive” and we were told the workers "are used to using porta-potties" as an excuse for the condition they left our own bathroom in. Another major frustration involved project expectations and communication. We paid extra for computer-generated renderings that, along with multiple conversations with the owner and design consultant, represented the final design we believed we were agreeing to. Near the end of the project, however, we were told those renderings were “only visual representations” and not reflective of the actual finished work. There were very blatant parts of the renderings intentionally left out of the finished work and we were told, at the end of the project, although those items appear complete in the renderings, they were not quoted as part of the project. This felt misleading and frustrating after spending significant financial and time investments into both the renovation and design process. In addition, some portions of the finished work did not meet expectations, including improperly refinished hardwood floors that were left uneven and unfinished in appearance. We were told by the contracted flooring professional that in order to do the floors the "right way" they would have had to remove the balusters. When we signed the contract, we were under the impression all of the work being contracted would be done "the right way." Unfortunately, this assumption was incorrect. There are many more examples which resulted in us writing this review. Throughout the process, we frequently felt that our concerns were minimized or dismissed rather than addressed professionally. We invested a significant amount into this home renovation and expected accountability, clear communication, and quality workmanship. We are mostly happy with the finished project but, unfortunately, we left the experience feeling disappointed in how we were treated as clients throughout the entire project. Hopefully this experience was just an off-project for Jake and his team, but we have also since spoken with others who have experienced similar concerns.
I can’t recommend Jake & the Hubley team enough! They renovated our entire kitchen & built a full bar into what was an empty playroom. We hired an amazing designer, Renee Weisman Designs, and Hubley’s team made all of her beautiful designs come to life perfectly. We could not believe how organized the entire team was. Everything was completed faster than we could have imagined and the communication from start to finish was unbelievable. But most importantly, every single person from Hubley who came into our home was a joy to be around. Not only is the team talented and skilled, they are also incredibly respectful and kind. Our kids keep saying they miss having the team here! We are so happy with all of the work Hubley did and highly recommend them to everyone.
