The job one family described in December is the one nobody wants: a structural rebuild of the ceiling in the middle of their house, while they were living and working in that room around the clock. They wrote that Iannelli's crew ran it from demolition through to the finish work. David Iannelli owns the company and is the contractor on the job. He started it in Wilmington in 2017 and has four employees; its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration is active on the state registry, and the Better Business Bureau grades it A+. The work is carpentry-led — the company says it specialises in high-end finish work and custom design — and extends through remodels, additions, decks, fences, finished basements and painting. The custom carpentry is what customers describe in the most detail. A 2022 client had a walk-in closet and a headboard built, with a barn door made from reclaimed wood, and said the work area stayed clean and organised throughout. Another that autumn had a front porch and its historic details restored, done quickly and under budget. A customer writing in November 2024 lists a closet buildout, built-in shelving and a front door installation that had been giving trouble. The company is also a certified Andersen window installer: one homeowner was referred to them by Andersen in 2022 to fit a sliding patio door, and another had four windows, a slider, a front and storm door and interior painting done the same year. Old houses come up again and again. A customer in July 2024, with a house the previous owner had let go, had new-construction windows fitted and structural problems dealt with, and said the crew ran into big surprises on the way. A 2023 client's 1980s condo, left in poor condition by years of neglect and smoking, was demoed to the studs. Another in July 2024 said they sorted out something a previous contractor had failed at three times. On Reddit last October, a commenter in r/Somerville said David Iannelli was the contractor for their store in Davis Square and called the company reliable. Two of the credentials on the Houzz page are self-listed — Lead Safe Certified Contractor and BPI Building Analyst Professional, with a Phius Certified Builder claim on the company's own site — and that page also claims BBB accreditation, while the BBB's own profile records the business as not accredited even as it grades it A+. Ask to see the certificate if your job turns on one. For detail-heavy carpentry, a window and door package, or a remodel in an old house where something will be wrong behind the plaster, this is a small crew whose customers keep coming back for a second and third project. Agree the scope and how changes get priced before demolition starts.
“A good reliable GC is tough to come by, but Iannelli Custom Contracting is great. David Iannelli is the owner and GC. He was the GC for my store in Davis Sq.”
David and his team really went the extra mile for us. Our ceiling needed a large structural update in the center of our house, which felt risky to do while we were living and working 24/7 in that space. The Iannelli team executed every step from demolition through finishing with surgical precision. They kept the entire project completely contained in a small space, worked around our schedule so our lives were not disrupted, and finished in a matter of days. They were also really nice so it wasn't annoying having them around. We're also really pleased with how the project turned out. While it was a damage repair/mitigation project, it looks great and has made our space look and feel much better. We were especially pleased that the team saved and re-used the trim that divided the affected rooms, keeping the look consistent and keeping our costs down. That level of attention to detail when the main focus was installing a massive new beam across our house was super impressive. We'll definitely be coming back to Iannelli Custom Contracting for any new projects, and highly recommend them!
David and his workers did a beautiful job installing a new picture window for our home. From the detail work on measuring and meticulous work on install we felt comfortable. The work done was neat, careful and precise from what we could see and care was paid to not damage anything in the house as they worked. We had asked for the window to match our existing window trims inside and out and they did a perfect job. The new window is beautiful and as an Andersen Installer combined with the care in the work they did we felt confidence in the process.
Beautiful work. Clean and respectful crew.
Dave and his brother have done numerous projects (a closet buildout, built-in shelving, and a difficult front door installation) for us. Their precision, skill, and attention to detail are outstanding. I look forward to working with them again on a bigger construction project.
The Iannelli team is amazing! They do great work and are wonderful to work with.
