JD Solar Solutions installs solar panel systems, and its Google page shows 4.9 stars from 32 ratings. The company says it has been in business 12 years, and its website describes an installation on two neighboring homes in Portland, CT. A 2023 customer said Damon got them a rough quote within an hour of a phone call and confirmed it in person after checking the property within 2 days. That 2023 customer also said Damon filed the permits right after the contract was signed, as he said he would. A 2023 reviewer wrote that JD Solar handled the paperwork for permits and program applications, and made the arrangements for related electrical work: moving the meter and installing a new main panel. A 2023 customer whose town permit took several months said that once it came through, the installation was scheduled promptly and completed within two days. In a 2022 review, a customer in the ninth year with a 24-panel system said that on the two occasions a micro-inverter failed, an email to JD got a new one ordered and the old one replaced at no charge. A 2025 customer said a technician arrived the same day and resolved a lost gateway internet connection within minutes. On r/connecticut, a 2024 commenter who installed with JD Solar a while back said the service afterwards was good the one or two times in ten years anything was needed. A 2025 Google reviewer gave 2 stars. When that customer's system stopped working, they said it took a few days to get JD focused on the issue, and JD reached out after four days to say they could come by; a different maintainer found a blown fuse. That 2025 reviewer said that when three panels later showed degraded output, JD, no longer the system maintainer, said it could not see the problem nor offer any help, and the customer replaced the three panels with another brand.
“Earthlight or JD Solar. I just went through the process and both are much more legit than Trinity.”
“JD Solar in bolton was great.”
“JD Solar is a great option.”
“JD Solar, Earthlight energy are the two that usually come to mind when someone asked...local owners that care about quality.”
“JD Solar was great to work with on installation a while back. Good service (the one or two times in ten years I've needed anything) afterwards too.”
While I post reviews with some frequency on Google, I only do so to express gratitude for great service. Never a review worse than four stars. This review marks a change for me. We have been disappointed in the service of JD Solar. A year ago, the system stopped working completely and it took a few days to get JD focused on the issue as they suggested Enphase was the problem with internal software upgrade issues. JD indicated that production was still occurring even though data reporting was not working. Given this went on for a few days, I thought the problem was more severe, so I reached out to Enphase and to a well-regarded local solar installer/maintainer (Silver rated by Enphase). I was directed to look at the net meter device and it was clear that there was no electric flow to Eversource on those very sunny days. JD reached out after four days to say they could come by. Instead, I had the new solar maintainer come out and they fixed the problem. Apparently, it was a blown fuse in the solar box panel. After that, I went into Enphase’s online system and permanently switched the system maintainer from JD to my new maintainer. JD remains the installer of record. Recently, we began to have three solar panels experience very degraded output. Again, with the help of Enphase and the new solar maintainer, we determined the panels were failing and we eliminated any microinverter issues as we moved the three panels and they still had degraded performance. I reached out to JD to see what could be done about the panels they installed as they do have a 25-year warranty. Given they were no longer the system maintainer, JD indicated they could not see the problem nor offer any help. If they had been willing, I would have added them to the system as a maintainer with a couple of mouse clicks so JD could see the issue. It is really that simple. We left it there unresolved, so I moved to replace my three JD installed panels with three new panels (a different brand I might add). All issues now resolved. JD remains the installer of record on 23 of the 26 panels in the system, although I appreciate that I am on now on my own for future isssues. If more panels fail, I will just have to continue replacing them at my cost. The owner and I have had our differences so I have no doubt he will have a different view. He will argue that since someone else has now touched the system, then JD is relieved of responsibility. Not sure having someone fix a blown fuse is meaningful intervention by another party but certainly dangerous enough that I did not want to try it. We only had new panels installed once JD said they would not be able to help with the warranty work. Despite these relatively minor issues, solar offers an attractive value proposition. We power a PHEV, an EV (Level 2 charge installed) and two robotic lawnmowers. Over the course of a year, we receive a modest bill for three months in the winter and the rest of the time we build a credit towards the next month. If the back of my house allowed for more panels, I would add them. Solar is great!!!
Recently, my system lost its internet connection to the gateway. I contacted JD Solar to send a technician. Later the same day, a technician arrived and, within minutes, resolved the issue. Thank you JD Solar for providing excellent service.
JD solar was the most professional and straight forward solar company we met with (we met and got estimates from three companies). Bob with JD solar came prepared with easy to understand and concise charts and documents about our usage, what system would be most effective for us, and our different options. Bob was also just a joy to meet and kept us updated along the way with permits and install. I recommend them to anyone considering solar.
The whole process was outstanding. They were friendly, professional, and helpful, and the project was completed efficiently and effectively. I would definitely recommend!
JD Solar installed our system 4 years ago and it was flawless until it was knocked off line (probably due to nearby lightning) and all generation stopped. Damon came out, assessed the situation and coordinated with Emphase to replace parts. The new parts are now installed (everything covered by Emphase's warranty) and we're back generating again. I continue to be impressed with the great individuals who work at JD.
