Helio Solar's website describes solar, batteries, heat pumps, roofing and electrical work designed as one system. A 2026 post on r/Connecticut placed Helio Solar in Trumbull. It holds a 4.4-star Google rating from 43 ratings. A recent customer describes an 18.275 kW system with 43 panels on a roof with many faces, and says the company coordinated with them and their contractor and cared about how the conduits were positioned and run. A recent 3-star review says the install went smoothly, with no hardware issues and installers who left their work areas clean. That customer also says it took 2.5 weeks of following up after the utility rejected the proposed drawings before Helio responded. That customer says the company received their incentive payment in January 2026 without their knowledge, and a check was written to them in June 2026 after months of emails and calls. A 2026 customer described numerous meetings to add options such as a critter guard and a hybrid inverter, and said the panels went on in a day while the permits took much longer. A 2025 customer said Doug set reasonable expectations, and that when there was some property damage on the exterior of the house, Helio fixed it in an expedient fashion. A 2023 customer said the company spent a few hours and two trips fixing their air conditioning, which had nothing to do with the solar power, and that Nick ran out to buy them a new thermostat. A 2024 customer had a car charger installed for their electric vehicle. In a 2024 one-star review, a customer said the installation took 3 months longer than initially promised, that answers to questions took weeks, and that Helio did not allow owners to adjust the time-of-use settings on their Sol Ark battery.

I can break my experience into two parts - install/engineering and communication. With respect to install/engineering, I think the whole process went smoothly (~9 months in as of this post). There have been no hardware issues associated with the system. All of the engineers and installers that visited my house were respectful, pleasant to talk to, and left their work areas clean. 2.5/2.5 stars on that end. Communication, it's a .5/2.5. I had two major issues that detract enormously from the experience. The first was lack of response and communication after the utility did not pass the proposed drawings for my system. I forwarded to Helio as soon as the rejection came through. It was 2.5 weeks of following up after receiving the rejection until Helio finally responded and said they were getting new plans submitted. My issue isn't the rejection, it's the radio silence on emails and phone calls/voicemails that was frustrating and unprofessional. The second involved altering a contract without my knowledge. Summarized, the company received MY incentive payment in January 2026; I was unaware. I found out through talking with the CT Greenbank that it had been paid out. After many attempts via email and phone calls/voicemails over several months, a check was finally written to me in June 2026. Very disappointed in the communication, hence 3 overall stars. Bottom line: excellent installer but beware of communication.
We were very happy with Helio solar. Our project was complicated, many faces to our roof: an 18.275 kW system with 43 panels. They did a great job coordinating with us and our contractor and cared about the esthetics of positioning and running the conduits. Greg, Butch, David, the whole team were absolutely professional and kind - it was a pleasure to work with them, and we felt respected throughout the process.
Grade A company. An absolute pleasure to work with.
Solar is a process, so be aware it will be numerous steps, permits, and appointments. Within that reality, Helio was a very good company. We had numerous meetings while I requested additional options - like critter guard (oh, the squirrels) and using a hybrid inverter that would allow me to install batteries less expensively than Enphase or Tesla systems. Then, the system gets designed, then you sign off, then they do a site visit to visually inspect the roof, then permits and installations. The actual panels go on in a day - everything else takes A LOT longer. And then permits to turn everything on, permits to connect to the grid, permits to energize the grid (if you have a battery - try hard to include a battery for energy independence and power outages). A final approval from the electric company and then the job is done and the final payment made (payments are made in installments, depending on financing). Some of the places I got good information from were: Energy Sage, CT Smart-e loan, and solar installers on Youtube. They and Helio helped me design the system I wanted that I could afford. Pros of working with Helio: they did everything they said they would and pleasantly. I felt like the price was reasonable to the system size and complexity. Everyone was knowledgeable or could refer me to someone knowledgeable. Good communication at various points in the installation. The engineers and electricians were fabulous - decent, hardworking, left a clean site, kept asking if I had questions (I always did). Things to know? You have to keep track of your configuration and ask questions so nothing gets forgotten (But, once I asked, EVERYTHING on my list got done, and they were courteous about each reminder/request). Parts of the process can be a little confusing - Dave, Walter, John, even the owner helped me to become more knowledgeable along the way. If something doesn't make sense, ask them to explain it again or watch some installation videos online. But taken as a whole, huge process, I really had no problems, and that's saying something, given how intricate a process this is. I felt Helio stood behind their product and installation, and I feel good about their customer service. I was very happy that I used Helio, and I would recommend them without reservation. (I'll try to update this in a year or two with any new info or system results).
Helio solar was all worth it due to who we work with..Doug took the time to answer all of our questions and we have alot of questions!!! but the best part of the process was that if doug didnt know something ,he would found it out and never left us unsure. We was never pushy to sell. His concern was to get us the best service and knowledge on what we were getting. The installation process was smooth and fast and very professional as well.Thank you so much again Doug.It was a great to work you !!!
